BFA Acting Class of 2023: preparation, prescreens, auditions, questions and support

Yes she did apply other places but none as good as her backup plan. UNCSA is the only school worth not deferring a year or two for. She has a great path laid out no matter which route she takes so I’m not worried about her future, at all, just anxious to hear, lol!

@STHmom Thank you for the reminder to breathe! It sure is a stressful time right now. I am also so happy to hear that your son has had such a great freshman year. I hope, like you, that in the next few weeks my D will have several great options

Maybe it was one of the few notifications that @RogueMom mentioned, but D did find out of someone getting a call from UNCSA yesterday

Good luck to all UNCSA folks!

Had a vivid dream of D getting a Fordham rejection letter (expected). Guess getting closer to the truth ?

Is anybody getting firm offers/rejections from Otterbein? (Asking for a non-CC friend)

@collegeadmiss Yes! I tried to respond yesterday but my account is new and my posts kept getting flagged for some reason.

Anybody have any info on LIU Brooklyn Acting Program and/or the school in general? Pros/cons?

@workinggirl25 My D was accepted accademically with scholarship and auditioned in Jan. We are still waiting to hear about BFA acceptance into the Acting for Theatre, Film and Television program. It’s a new program and from what I understand they work closely for acting classes with The New Group. But don’t know more, also looking for info.

I’m going crazy. I can’t stop myself from checking this forum every few minutes to see what’s going on. I’m literally getting nothing else done. I work from home, so this is killing me! :open_mouth:

@collegeadmiss Same!!! It’s easier the third time around but I’m still obsessing over CC and all of my D’s portals :))

We all probably have the same threads bookmarked! Lol

I used to keep a copy of this at work…it moved with me to every new desk I had.I think I need to do hang it up again. Good advice for all of us right now, especially over the next few weeks.

The Station

"Tucked away in our subconscious is an idyllic vision. We see ourselves on a long trip that spans the continent. We are traveling by train. Out the windows we drink in the passing scene of cars on nearby highways, of children waving at the crossings, of cattle grazing on a distant hillside, of smoke pouring from a power plant, of row upon row of corn and wheat, of flatlands and valleys, of mountains and rolling hillsides, of city skylines and village halls.

But uppermost in our minds is the final destination. On a certain day, at a certain hour, we will pull into the station. Bands will be playing and flags will be waving. Once we get there, so many wonderful dreams will come true and the pieces of our lives will fit together like a completed jigsaw puzzle. How restlessly we pace the aisles, damning the minutes for loitering – waiting, waiting, waiting for the station.

‘When we reach the station, that will be it!’ we cry. ‘When I’m 18!’ ‘When I buy a new 450 SL Mercedes Benz!’ ‘When I put the last kid through college!’ "When I have paid off the mortgage!’ ‘When I get a promotion!’ ‘When I reach the age of retirement, I shall live happily ever after!’

Sooner or later we must realize there is no station, no one place to arrive at for once and for all. The true joy of life is the trip. The station is only a dream. It constantly outdistances us. It isn’t the burdens of today that drive us mad. It is the regrets over yesterday and the fear of tomorrow. Regret and fear are twin thieves who rob us of today.

So stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. Instead, climb more mountains, eat more ice cream, go barefoot more often, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets, laugh more, and cry less. Life must be lived as we go along. The station will come soon enough."

@workinggirl25 @NYDreammom My D auditioned for LIU Brooklyn at Chicago Unifieds as well. She learned about them while there and liked their BFA in Theatre, Film and Television track as well their association with The New Group.

@workinggirl25, here’s a thread about LIU from the MT forum that may be helpful: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/2121053-liu-post-mt-questions.html#latest

FYI - From the LIU website, there’s two LIU campuses:
LIU Brooklyn has BFA in Acting for Film Theatre, & Television.
LIU Post has the following:
B.A. in Theatre Arts
B.F.A. in Theatre Arts (Acting)
B.F.A. in Theatre Arts (Design & Production)
B.F.A. in Theatre Arts (Directing & Playwriting)
B.F.A. in Theatre Arts (Musical Theatre)

@Atreuh Otterbein sent my D a “no” earlier this week following her MT audition. Not sure about acting but for MT they said everyone would hear this week whether they were a) still in the consideration pool, or b) no longer being considered.

I think the MT thread is only about LIU Post since Brooklyn has no MT program. Thanks @actorparent1 and @love2share !

@workinggirl25 @NYDreammom

This is what I know about LIU Brooklyn BFA in Acting Film and Television. We learned about it at the end of December and my daughter applied as her dream is to do all three. It sounded perfect for her. It’s a brand new program with a curriculum in which most of the Theater classes will be taught by The New Group at their location 2-3 days a week and the other courses will take place on campus. The New Group has a great reputation in New York. The rest of the classes will be held at LIU Brooklyn and any shows would be put on at their performance spaces in Brooklyn. This program is brand new this fall so it’s not an established program but the contacts in this program seem like they would be incredible. My daughter did audition and get in so we will be going to New York at some point in the next two months to check it out. Waiting for a few other schools to let us know before we book the trip so we can make the most of the trip. This class of 2023 would be their first class but they do have a showcase in their program. If either of you are close to New York they are having an open house this Saturday.

Thanks @AUDITIONMGR ! When did your D audition? Mine was at the end of Jan and we are still waiting. Any info on how large the class will be? TIA

And yes, we got the email for Sat but we are not close at all.
