BFA Acting Class of 2023: preparation, prescreens, auditions, questions and support

My daughter got an acceptance call on Saturday evening fro UNCSA. She’s beyond excited!

Congratulations to your D @NYC3mom - I’ll bet! Such a great program and the actors I know there just love it.

YAY!!! for yes #1 @love2share and even better when it comes with moola. :slight_smile: BAL to D for Rutgers!

I am amazed at parents who can calmly contemplate going through this process more than once. You guys are troopers!!!

Hi everyone! Everything I know about this process, I’ve learned on CC, so thank you all so much for sharing your info and stories. I have been reading for a long time and thought I should share a little.

My D is very independent but she is also a procrastinator. Not a good combo for a type A, planner mom!! She filmed her prescreens on her own, with her iphone, in the corner of my bedroom. I never saw them, but I have to assume they were okay because she passed them all. Everything was turned in at the very last minute, which drove me crazy, but I tried to take a hands off approach. Her first auditions were at North TX Drama Auditions and she got several call backs but was only interested in a few school. Except for UT Austin (on campus), and Marymount Manhattan (video audition), all other auditions were at Chicago Unified. She had 10 auditions set up and did 6 walk-ins. There were some walk-ins were she didn’t end up applying to once we got home. We have been waiting since then and she has started to get some “Yeses”! Columbia College and U Northern Colorado were a few months ago, Marymount Manhattan, Missouri State (phone call on Friday), U Evansville (snail mail on Saturday) U of Arts (snail mail today). We still have 7 schools we’re waiting on but it’s relief to have some good options. Good luck to all!

Congrats on all the acceptances!

@gish814 - Congratulations to your D for some great acceptances already! And hats off to you for wading through CC to find all the good advice to support her.

Congratulations @gish814! You both have done great! You let her lead and she can’t have procrastinated that much to get in 16 auditions at Chicago alone! Wow!

@CaMom13 Thank you so much!

@NYC3mom Congrats to your D on UNCSA!

@gish814 Congrats on all the acceptances!

Large envelope in the mail today from Montclair (financial aid, still waiting on BFA notification), and official letter of acceptance from local state BA Theatre program (non-auditioned). In other words old news :slight_smile: But glad to see things are heating up around here!

@gish814 Congrats on all your acceptances! I can relate, D is last minute too (submitted last digital audition Sat night), and my bedroom was without curtains for several months (she used them to create a white wall space for filming her TNS videos and DePaul prescreen - accepted and passed). So as hard as it is letting go they are finding their way!

@FourStars @CaMom13 @love2share Thank you so much!

@NYDreammom You are so right. I keep having to remind myself to let her do her thing. And congrats to you!!

@NYC3mom and @acting2023 and anyone else with a UNCSA accceptance, when did your kids audition? Anyone with UNCSA rejections I’d love to know the audition date too. I heard of at least one more drama acceptance that went out tonight. We still have no news either way.

Hi. She auditioned on the 19th Of January.

Sorry. I mean the 27th.

@love2share and @NYC3mom Congratulations on the yeses!

@CharacterShoes My son auditioned for UNCSA on 2/8 and got a rejection email this past Friday on 2/22. His friend was called and accepted to UNCSA on 2/23. I hope this helps. Maybe no news is good news!

@CharacterShoes do you think they notify alphabetically both rejections and acceptances?

@collegeadmiss I have no clue. I was wondering if they went out based on audition date. But a current UNCSA student on the facebook group posted that all acceptances had gone out as of last night and waitlist calls would be starting soon with more waves of rejections coming. Who knows. It sounds like a whole lot of people are still waiting for any news.

@theater7 and @NYCmom3 we really appreciate you sharing your info. This is a hard one here.

@CharacterShoes What Facebook group did the UNCSA student post on? How would a current student know this? Shouldn’t it be confidential until the students waiting hear?

@32barMom, the kids only facebook group for all of this years BFA MT and acting kids. Lots of the schools have self-appointed student reps in the group giving out info, most of the time it’s pretty accurate. I don’t know more beyond that, I’m in the same boat as everyone else waiting for news.

I probably shouldn’t have posted at all. These are probably the kind of posts that make the schools hate college confidential. I usually know better but the stress of not hearing anything is getting to me.

@CharacterShoes I’m waiting for news too, and I think it’s totally unprofessional that the school would allow students to post something on a Facebook page before all students are notified of their results. All it does is add to the stress.

@32barMom, well I apologize for adding to it too by sharing what D showed me. This whole process is so hard! Hope you get some great news soon! Hope we all do!
