Does anyone know when pace is releasing decisions?
@pink313, just to be clear for everyone, I think you meant that BU’s number accepted gets smaller every year.
“Yield” means the percentage of students accepted who choose to attend that school. So for example, if they accept 35 kids and every single one chooses to go there, that would be a 100 percent yield. If they accept 70 kids and 35 choose to go there, that would be a 50 percent yield.
If the school’s yield were getting smaller every year, that would mean fewer students are choosing to go there after being accepted, which I’m sure is not the case!
@pink313 @actorparent1 - I feel like she said she takes 100 applicants up to admissions and about 70-80 get acceptances as many don’t make the academic requirements - but now that things are getting closer, I was questioning those numbers - however - I did a little leg work and counted the accepted students from a prior year and came up with 45 so 70-80 accepted artistically and academically may be right to yield about 45 - unless they are looking for a smaller class size. We didn’t apply to a lot of acting so I’m not sure what the yield would be at BU and how competitive it is. Also - does anyone know if they make priority hold calls like some other schools? TIA
@DivaStageMom @pink313 @actorparent1 - My D auditioned on campus for BU in January and they gave us the same numbers you are mentioning.
35-40 for the freshman class. There was no mention of priority hold calls.
Just for side info, I believe BU’s spring break is this coming week, March 9-13th.
Has anyone heard from Royal Welsh Acting?
@yourmama99 Thank you for taking one for the team and asking that tough question! I hate the rolling out of decisions because it feels so crappy to be waiting just for a no. I think the colleges underestimate how much social media chatter there is among parents and kids!
@username231 yes, we have a friend who was accepted and heard folks were waitlisted as well.
Just wondering if anyone has heard anything from FSU yet? I understood they were supposed to already have made calls on the 24-25th and that WL letters went out on the 25th. Has anyone on here heard anything? We keep checking email, portal and mailbox, but nothing so far this week. I’m guessing it will be a no at this point, but it’s taking a long time to receive a rejection if they made acceptance calls on 24-25…
@DivaStageMom - For BU, my knowledge is from year before last, but I checked back (yes, I kept the spreadsheet even though we’ll never need it again, lol!), and D got a 3/1 email that said decisions would be released 3/17 on portals & an email would be sent when the decisions were available. However, D didn’t get an email 3/17 about it, but checked her portal, and was wait listed. No phone call.
Just got our official rejection from FSU via email today so hoping others got better news! But it’s ok…we also got two yeses with good scholarships from LIU Post and LIU Brooklyn this week!
Huge congratulations on LIU Post and Brooklyn! So sorry about FSU.
FYI - Just received our first cancelation of a College “Preview - Acceptance” Day. This was for Loyola Marymount University (LMU) April 19th event. I’m guessing that a lot of colleges will be canceling their big one day events.
Thanks for the update. It’s good to know.
Does anyone know anything about Roosevelt’s Acting BFA? Class size? Anyone D or S there? Can you take voice and dance? Thanks!
@Abutilon Here’s what I learned: A single voice lesson first semester, a ballet class as a freshman, and anything more is likely out of pocket through outside studio. That helps rule out Roosevelt for us.
@DancerMTMom, Thanks! By Single voice lesson, does that literally mean one lesson? Did you get your info from the school or someone who goes there? We haven’t followed up with any schools directly yet. I’m also wondering if the Acting kids get extra Acting classes that are different than the MT students? My D is an actor first, then singer, then dancer. She ideally wants a program where she gets intensive acting training but can also do voice and dance.
This is what my son is looking for too! He auditioned for MT and acting programs but so far offered only BFA acting programs (from Shenandoah and Ohio U). Waiting to hear from three more. Feeling like limited dance exp. preventing him from getting MT offers but also feeling like BFA acting way to go. Good to get a great foundation in acting and add some singing and dancing to that. Some of the MT programs he applied once we visited realized didn’t have enough of an acting based focused.
And both schools have said can audition for musicals, minor in dance, join ensembles, and take private voice lessons One we know there’s a cost per lessons but honestly what’s $100 a week added to thousands a year for college. I’m more concerned if a teacher will be available for him because he definitely wants to continue to develop his voice. So along with their BFA acting programs and the schools, he’s trying to evaluate between the two for how much he will be able to sing and dance w/i the BFA program.
@Abutilon Sorry, I misread the information sent to me. Voice lessons are first semester of Junior and Senior year, and Ballet is Freshman year only, as indicated by current student. No dance minor at Roosevelt, which we were hoping for to supplement Acting BFA.
BU auditioned 1800 last year; their 2023 class has 41. I believe they admit 75. I’ve heard decisions are going out by 3/23. They are on spring break this week.
My S was waitlisted for BU last year (no email but knew what time to check the portal) and was accepted shortly thereafter. If there was a priority hold list, he wasn’t informed about it. He did speak with McCaela several times throughout the process.
