BFA Acting Class of 2024: Preparation, Prescreens, Auditions, Questions and Support

S received a very polite no from LAMDA today, in case anyone else has been waiting.

@muttsandMT We are waiting on Syracuse Acting as well!

Thank you @Abutilon ! I really hope that we hear something today…I’m tired of feeling nervous, anxious, and nauseous all the time and just REALLY want this to all be over! This will be the last decision to come in for my D (other than one WL she is on), so I am really looking forward to being able to focus on the positives of the programs she’s been accepted to, rather than dwelling on the rejections.

Question…we just got an acceptance to the BA theatre program at Northeastern (where you can also minor in MT). It is a non-audition school but you submit videos to help strengthen application. Academically its’ the best school with an admit, but it is not a BFA so would be much more of cobbling together to get what my child is seekin. Very torn though since the school is academically strong and the co-op opportunities sound amazing. Long shot, but does anyone know anything about he theatre program at Northeastern?

@CBSQandA My D was accepted as well to Northeastern. We toured April 2019 and again were on campus in Nov 2019 for the on-campus audition for Merit. Person that we dealt with the most was Jesse Hinson, an Associate Teaching Professor, seems like a great guy. We are waiting to see what Merit Scholarship would be (guess we were missing a form on the CSS Profile!???!).

@LamaDrama and what did your D think? Does she want the MT minor? Mine does…and is worried about dance because it doesn’t look like they have dance at all.

Did anyone hear from Syracuse today? At this point are we just waiting for the rejection?

@Abutilon , my D is still waiting, as are all of her friends who haven’t heard yet. Gotta be honest – I’m assuming at this point it’s a rejection or a WL at best. I looked at the general Syracuse thread, and there are several people there who are waiting too. At least 2 of them called today or yesterday and were told that decisions would be continuing to roll out until the END of NEXT WEEK. UGH!!!

@muttsandMT OMG so AFTER April 1? We are waiting on Syracuse and NYU. And I agree that if it were a yes, we would have heard by now. BUT we need to hear!

@Abutilon – yes, according to the posters on the Syracuse thread…AFTER April 1! I agree, it’s very frustrating. I can understand that things are difficult right now, but other schools are managing to let people know in a timely fashion, so I’m not sure why Syracuse is different. My D just really needs closure right now so she can move on.

Hi! I recently got accepted into LIU Post and Brooklyn, and I was wondering if any current students, or parents could give me some info on the programs? Thanks :slight_smile:

@cassiewhite13

You may want to email LIU Post and Brooklyn acting heads and ask if they would put you in contact with some current students. Another suggestion is to see if they have an accepted student page for their acting programs. You might be able to connect with some students there.

Can anyone share info on Roosevelt CCPA BFA Acting program? Thanks for any knowledge on program, campus, etc. We will not be able to tour before decision day due to the current situation.

@cassiewhite13 I only know that LIU Brooklyn was a brand new program last year i.e. the current freshman class is the first. My D was accepted last year but went somewhere else. Curious to know how it turned out for current students too.

@gelmom3 There were issues that came to light last year: https://www.onstageblog.com/editorals/2019/6/11/prominent-performing-arts-college-rocked-by-explosive-allegations

@NYDreammom and @gelmom3

The person at the center of that issue has been removed. There is always more then one side to every story. But the main thing is the problem was resolved awhile ago. Hope that helps :slight_smile:

@HAHCx4 While I’m glad the person is no longer there, issues of systematic racism and lack of diversity especially in the arts are not easy to remedy. I truly hope the school continues to make progress in that regard.

As i said, there is more then one side to every story. Ccpa has always been an EXTREMELY diverse school in both acceptances, classes, and casting. If anyone has any questions plz feel free to pm me personally. I have a child who has first hand knowledge.

Thank you for the info @NYDreammom and @HAHCx4!

@gelmom3 - just from hearsay / observation since you can’t visit. CCPA is smack dab in the middle of the loop in Chicago. It’s an awesome location for urbanites. :slight_smile: I have a friend whose D attends, the kids seem to move to independent housing fairly early so either dorm space is sparse or expensive or both. Students have some opportunities outside of school to perform. I would rate the school environment to be on the “professional” side rather than the “nurturing” side of the scale, if that makes sense? Maybe other parents who have kids there can chime in with more detailed info.
