I feel that ccpa is definitely nurturing but with many professional opportunities. Some kids don’t really audition outside the school while others take full advantage of the city. I personally thought it was a plus for kids to get their feet wet in a big city while still in school.
The location in the city is amazing. Right across from all the great parks and the lake.
Most kids i knew stay in the dorms for a year or maybe 2 max. They are some of the nicest I have seen on any campus. But like most city schools, it’s much cheaper to get an apt then to stay in the dorms. I haven’t known anyone not stay in the dorms from lack of space.
Has anyone heard anything from CalArts? Seems like it’s getting pretty late.
S knows a classmate who was accepted at CalArts a few weeks ago. (S didn’t apply/audition there, so no first-hand knowledge.)
@username231 We are also waiting on CalArts. I am honestly assuming it is a no, since my D does have a friend who was accepted and I see a number of posts on an accepted students facebook page. I just wish they would make it official. They are the last one we are waiting on.
@CBSQandA - sorry for the delay, my D just informed me that she was accepted to Northeastern’s international program. So fall semester would probably be Canada. Hmmmm…still waiting on Merit Scholarship aid offer, but not super thrilled about the fall semester being out of USA at this time.
Our State Flagship University just made an announcement that they are moving all of the summer classes online. They will determine within the next few weeks (I’m guessing by the end of April beginning of May) about Fall term.
I watched Cuomo’s Covid19 briefing today, and one of the models indicated the virus would still be an issue, though not as severe, in August. If that model holds true, I cannot imagine D would go back to NYC for her sophomore year on time.
Wow @yellahamma - really? I will need to go watch that, thanks.
Yep, @CaMom13. The model showed the peak in the next month or so and the number of new cases leveled through the summer but were not at zero. And, I was wondering if states whose COVID19 models were skewed right would want an influx of students that were not coming from areas with the same model.
@yellahamma - I watched the briefing, thanks. I love that he includes real data - it almost makes you cry how informative he is. My personal perspective - I know the arc of an epidemic in one area generally occurs over 2-3 months. Exreme social distancing and flattening the curve extends that arc. I think what that NY model is showing is exactly what you’re saying - there’s a primary curve and that once that is over and you “reopen for business” you get subsequent arcs deriving from the non-static population pool being exposed. I don’t know if the NY model shown includes ongoing social distancing or assumes NY will be back to normal operations once the worst is over. The Gates IHME model for mortality was very interesting because it levels off (near zero slope) for the nation as a whole in July with NY leveling off sooner - more like the end of May / beginning of June. So NY’s curve goes between March and June but other parts of the country that are just experiencing the beginnings of the virus will go on for another month or more. I am not counting Fall semester out yet - especially as NY is ahead of the curve - but I definitely see where the schools would simply not want to take the chance of being the site of another outbreak. Oh my.
Released for BFA Acting today: Point Park, UWSP, LIU Post & LIU Brooklyn today
does anyone know the chances of getting off the Pace FTVC waitlist?
@username231 My D is on the accepted students group chat for FTVC. All this info is from her, so take my numbers with a grain of salt, as she is not always the most detail orientated person…She thinks there were originally 24 of them on the chat. She says four have told the group they have declined their spots. Of the 20 left she thinks roughly 10 have accepted their spots and 10 are still undecided. She was told that the goal class size is “more than 18 but less than 30”. She says no one, in the discussions she has been in on, has asked the director about the waitlist, or how many students were actually accepted, so she has no info on when they might actually move to the waitlist. No one new has joined their group so far as a waitlist contact.
I know that isn’t much help, but to me those numbers sound like at least a few will be offered spots off the waitlist.
@username231, for what it’s worth, two years ago my D was offered a spot from the Pace FTVC waitlist on May 1, decision day. They said at the time that a lot of people had waited til the last day to decline. So their waitlist DOES move.
thank you both so much!! very helpful:)
I don’t know if this will help anyone but my d said that there has been some movement on the Baldwin Wallace BFA Acting waitlist.
I’ve been so quiet on here, even more so than earlier when I posted infrequently. Still here, hanging in, and getting back into following threads now that we’ve become more accustom to our new lives under quarantine and stunned by covid-19, as is everyone. My daughter has 4 schools under strong consideration, and now two are getting more serious scrutiny. One of which she has never visited. Financial aspect is what keeps us from releasing any as of yet, even a few that are even lower on the list because until we are 100% sure just can’t close a door on anything. And that was prior to this past week when I lost my job due to financial impact of covid-19. Anyway, hopefully soon we will have all our answers and she too will be releasing some schools. I truly hope someday we can arrive at a good outcome. Wishing you all the best, stay safe and healthy.
So sorry to hear about your job. Finance plays a big part in this decision. I hope you get the response you want and need.
And it has been very quiet on here. I think so many are trying to weigh their options and some kids want their parents to respect their privacy.
We too wish a good outcome for everyone.
@username231 Yes, a couple of students we coach have heard from CalArts. They are negotiating their package right now.
Does anyone have any information on LIPA? My S was accepted and he is very interested we are just having a hard time finding a lot of information on it… TIA
