BFA Acting Class of 2025: preparation, prescreens, auditions, questions and support

The website lists tomorrow as the last day! BAL to all who are going this weekend. Nothing is set in stone!

Has anyone heard results from Royal conservatoire of Scotland’s acting prescreens?

No word from Syracuse after my D submitted her movement video and monologues and completed her interview. I’m guessing we just have to wait until the admission notification in late March.

My daughter got the call and the email followed very shortly after. I think she was told a little early. Pretty sure he is making calls today after the last auditions.

Any tips on visits in 2021? Pre-COVID insights aren’t as relevant with COVID restrictions. Does anyone have any clever ideas, advice, or information about opportunities for students to get to know schools past their websites? We’re reaching out to past students where we can, but trying to find ways to “get a feel” for the campus with all the restrictions.

Keep an eye out for accepted student virtual sessions with current students and faculty — the schools jumped on that pretty quickly last spring and made as much info & interaction available as possible. With more time to plan, they should be able to offer even better opportunities. It’s not the same as a visit, of course, but we were able to get a pretty good idea about the “vibe” of the programs.

agree with @Loganator, Emerson invited all accepted students to classes this week and the other schools that my son was accepted to have also been aggressive in inviting him to student meetings, facebook groups and classes. We will try to travel to any schools that are in totally new cities for us this spring, but the adults are lucky enough to have been vaccinated so we are probably in the minority.

Has Emerson released any Regular Decision (Acting) acceptances yet or only Early Decisions? My daughter had her very last (thank goodness) audition today. Now it is a matter of waiting and hoping.

I dont think so, my son applied EA1 and there was an EA2 that went out earlier this month. Their admissions instagram has been great for information. There are a bunch of accepted student events this week that I think went to everyone accepted EA or ED, my son is sitting in on a movement class.

She did, thank you! The whole audition experience for her was very rewarding and I think she really enjoyed it. No additional information though. And now we wait!

Daughter finished the audition process today!! 20 auditions/callbacks and we’re finally done!!! This weekend she had 3 - SUNY Purchase, Marymount Manhattan, and CalArts. SUNY was a disaster - she felt the auditors were disengaged and wanted to be anywhere else than on the zoom, and they deflected from her questions - they seemed unprepared… Marymount was good, she thought the students on the orientation and the auditors were engaged and happy to discuss the program… CalArts was amazing---- she came out of that last callback totally motivated and inspired by their kindness… Now we wait and pray.

I think they told my daughter she would hear about RD around April 1st

Is it just me, or does it seem like the waitlist situation is going to be nutty this year? With many students applying to more schools than in previous years (because we didn’t have to travel) many students will have more acceptances. And the 1 thing that’s guaranteed to be the same as previous years is that everyone’s going to choose just 1 school. So all those spots, at schools of all types are going to open up! But with the difficulty in visiting, students will need even more time to decide, so many of us might be in limbo 'til the last week of April. I hate to say it, but I think this “post-audition-pre-final-decision-season” will be the longest ever!

My D had a callback in early January. We got a no thank you email within 2 weeks. Best of Luck to you.

Not to scare you, but it was like that last year. My daughter was on waitlists until June 1 because of all the extensions due to covid …

Anybody heard from UNCSA?
I know they finished auditions yesterday and that they usually start calls immediately. Is no news at this point a “no”? I’m international so even on the off chance that I do get waitlisted/accepted I wouldn’t expect a phone call.

We are wondering this too…

Wishing everyone good choices and landed-just-where-you-belonged closure - the sooner the better!

Deep breath guys. All the schools that make personal calls to accepted students do so over at least a couple of days. The people who make the calls still have to teach during the day and do a variety of other things associated with the positions they hold at the school. They do not drop everything to make the calls, they fit them in throughout their day.
In UNCSAs case they have a current freshman drama class of 34 students, which means they made at least that number of calls last year. It took them at least until Wednesday to notify their chosen students. They send emails (portal updates) for waitlisted students.
Fingers crossed for everyone waiting for results! As a parent, especially one who watches message boards like these, these waiting weeks were excruciating.
