Just got informed I am finalist for full ride at BGSU. I live in San Diego so honestly I am not that familiar with the school. I have been focusing on OSU and have not really considered BGSU until now. There is no CC posts for BGSU so I am hoping some Ohio residents can give me some info about BGSU and its sports management program

BGSU isn’t as good as a school as OSU to be honest. I am not sure about their sports management, but I would definitely go where the money is. You’ll thank yourself later. Do some research on both schools programs though.

im not an ohio resident but i did get accepted to OSU for spring (deferred to summer, they didnt tell me till dec 17 of my acceptance and since I live in Riverside I didnt feel I had enough time to plan the 2000 mile trip) but anywho I did receive my financial aid letter and the only financial help osu offered me was a 2500 pell grant and student loans and I would have to pay out of state tuition.

Ill be honest with you, I think Ohio State is a highly accredited university. I believe its number 24 in my program. Last fall I was admitted into UCR with a full ride and because I didnt complete stats on time my admissions offer was rescinded. I did reapply to UCR for this upcoming fall and am waiting on their decision. Although I REALLY want to go to OSU and feel it has more prestige in my field if UCR offers me a full ride again then sadly I will stay in Riverside.

The way I look at it in my situation is, although OSU has more prestige I have to go with the school that is more financially suitable for me because I will be the one paying those student loans and I rather have a debt free undergrand degree and then get debt up to my eyeballs when I go in for my masters.

Did you apply to any schools in california? you said san diego so im guessing CA

@yankees3311

Ohio State is more like a city, a large campus. BGSU is much smaller and seems to be in the middle of a cornfield. If you don’t know anything about it, I wouldn’t even consider it.

“Did you apply to any schools in california?” No I did not because there is no money for scholarships in California. My older brother got accepted to UCLA, Cal, Cal Poly and did not receive one penny of scholarship money and he had 4.4 GPA and 34 ACT. Everyone wants to attend the UCs in California so they dont have to offer much merit aid

Keep in mind that you’ll be paying OOS tuition @ OSU, which is quite a bit more expensive than in-state

That is true, but if I get the scholarships I am hoping to it will be cheaper than going to school in California. Instate for UC’s is on the average $32,000 (tuition/living) and Cal states are about $20,000. Hoping to receive National Buckeye scholarship and some other smaller scholarships to help with costs

hey the only reason I asked is because I didnt know there was money either and I got a full ride at UCR as a CC transfer with a 3.2 majoring in history. The full ride came as a complete shock to me. Were you already accepted into OSU?

Hi OSULolz , I am glad to see you are doing well and a lot folks appreciate your help, my D has finished her first freshman semester in the Fisher Honors program and is really enjoying it.

We are also from Cali and with her National Buckeye Scholarship and one other OSU scholarship her tuition is actually a little lower than a UC school and with the current state of the Cali state budget I suspect that UC tuition could go higher at a quicker rate than OSU will go up.

Thanks again for all your help!

Collegeorelse: I am from San Diego and I did not apply to one school in California because of the lack of money. People in California find it hard to believe that I can to school OOS and pay less than if I went to a UC.

@Collegeorelse Glad she’s enjoying it! I’m actually in the LA area (Rancho Cucamonga) for my job…definitely different than Ohio!

Have a good year!

We laughed every time Berkeley and UCLA sent my S marketing material. My S didn’t apply to BGSU even though he’d likely get a full ride because he wants a more urban campus, or at least easy access to cultural stuff. My niece loves BGSU and will be attending next fall. I’ve known many who have attended and loved it. What do you want to know? I know they have a FB page because I see every time my niece posts. :)
