Seems like a good thing for Tulane. Although the Big East is a shadow of what it used to be, looks like a step up. Especially for hoops, and given that so many Tulane students come from the northeast.

The only bad thing I saw was that TU intends to play all of its BE basketball games in 18,000 seat NO Arena. Way bigger than necessary (like the Superdome).

Even big time BE basketball schools like St Johns (5,600 seats) and Villanova (6,500 seats) play a lot of their games on campus rather than in the pro arena. Any way to bump up capacity at Devlin (3,600 seats) by a little bit?

The city is excited about the Big East move, but I am very sorry to hear that many of the games will be played in the Arena. Many Tulane alums feel it was a mistake to move Tulane football games to the Dome. But, thinking on it, it’s probably going to be a good thing for the city, having the games at the Arena. The Hornets don’t draw too much, as the tickets are way too expensive for the average citizen, and if the Tulane basketball games are reasonably priced, the Arena may see more attendance. I remember the glory days of Tulane basketball, and I think you will see a lot of the local citizenry come out for the games.

Did they say that all the BE games would be in the Arena? I just saw what the Sporting News said, that Tulane promised to play “more” games there. Maybe you saw something more definitive, I didn’t read every story that closely.

I just hope they rename the conference. I know Big 10 and the like are equally silly names these days, but why not take the opportunity to come up with something more appropriate?

I see now that the press release says that the “majority” of the BE conference games will be played in the NO Arena. So maybe that only amounts to something like 5 or 6 off-campus home games per season.

That does make more sense. They just spent a lot of money upgrading Fogelman, renaming it the Devlin Fieldhouse.
