After reading the article, I couldn’t possibly disagree more. Their coverage of MM has always followed a very obvious script and this piece is no exception. Does this writer seriously expect everyone do believe that Harry’s whole personality has been changed because of that evil, mixed race, divorced American woman who somehow tricked him into marrying her (because Harry, poor lamb, just isn’t very bright?)? Actually, I guess the people who read the DM really do believe that, which is why they enjoy that paper which reinforces their world view.
Personally, I would not be surprised if Harry could no longer tolerate any reporter who participated in the effort to personally destroy his wife, whom he (presumably) loves. I very much doubt her rosy portrayal of how deeply he admired her as well as her belief that they had a personal connection at one point.
Have any of you seen the comedy show “The Windsors”. They are all mocked as not being very bright, except for Camilla who is portrayed as a scheming witch.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. But I wouldn’t or couldn’t bill it breaking away from family and getting independent. I couldn’t wish them for success or for failure since there’s nothing to succeed or fail living off your parents… If they were my kid, I would limit the allowance I give to them to match $x for every dollar they make after a transitional period.
I don’t foresee this ending well for anybody. They will get most, or all of what they are seeing to start their new lives, but a family, regardless of their place in the world, is torn apart; I cannot imagine living my family’s torment on the world stage!
As it looks at the moment, Archie will likely grow up away from the bonds of his UK family, without the tight knit of cousins of his own age, aunts, uncles grandparents etc., (unless Doria and Thomas move to Canada along with Samantha and her crew), and Harry looks poised to have some sort of mental health crisis in the coming months, which will will be a terrible tragedy.
As a Brit and an American, M&H can spend up to 6 months a year in Canada w/o applying for a visa or right to immigrate. Expected to pay tax on any income earned in Canada.
I had assumed “stepping back” from royal duties indicated they would still be working royals, but with fewer expectations and less pay. Now they are not even going to be using their royal titles. I’m surprised that they are repaying the entire cost of the renovation of Frogmore. This is more than I thought would happen.
Wow. I wonder if it will eventually come out why they can’t just step back and keep their titles? I bet this is a bit of a hand slap to them. You can’t have your cake and eat it, too.
Losing HRH means they can’t represent or do work for the queen. They still get to keep their Duke and Duchess title. They have to give up their charity work that has been tied to being royal.
Hmmmm, looking at a 36 million dollar house and the British Pilates instructor is flown over to Canada for her-good thing the family has plenty of money. It will take a lot.
I read that they will retain the HRH, but not use them. They will just be styled the Duke and Duchess of Sussex without the HRH.
Something I read said Pilates instructor was from US or Canada and is a friend. Could she just be coming to keep Meghan company while Harry remains in the UK?
I don’t think this is a slap in the face. I think it means they are back to being private citizens, which seems to mean they have greater rights to privacy under UK law. (I don’t really know this; just based on Mirror’s argument in law suit that the British people have right to know about Meghan because she’s a member of the royal family.) So, less justification for publishing personal correspondence; invading personal space for photographs.
Additionally, there seem to be some objections under Canada’s Commonwealth status for royals spending too much time there. Probably hope to weaken that argument too.
Personally I suspect Meghan will be doing more voiceovers.
