@doschicos, I think she helped promote a limited selection of clothing (from several designers if memory serves) that was sold to raise funds for a charity that helps launch women into the workforce. I believe there were a limited number of pieces available and some were donated to the charity for some of the women.
ETA: Article on BBC site says she designed her own fashion line in Canada prior to marriage.
Valid points about the charity nature, @2VU0609, but she definitely doesn’t shrink away from high profile projects and being in the public eye.
Another example is Harry and Meghan having their own Sussex instagram instead of just staying in the Royal Family instagram like most of the other royals, and her maintaining her own. My point being she does seem to relish the attention and being an influencer. Others in the family do much community and charitable outreach in a less high profile fashion.
Everyone seems to want to blame her… Harry has never been the shy retiring toe the line royal. He has always gone his own way… give equal credit to a grown man.
Some of this appears to be wanting the benefits of royals (somewhere I read they will only for forgo 5% of their income) without the negatives. Just not the way life works.
Maybe it is how life can work in Britian’s royal family. Depends on how generous Charles is feeling.
Finally someone is calling a thing a thing. I found all of the hysteria overdone when William and Kate did the same thing and it wasn’t a big deal. Harry has always a bit of a rebel so I’m not sure why anyone is surprised. They seem to be crazy in love and I’m rooting for them.
Can we talk about the fact there wasn’t this much angst regarding Andrew and his scandals ??♀️
“Can we talk about the fact there wasn’t this much angst regarding Andrew and his scandals”
Probably because there weren’t two sides to opinion on Andrew. He just sucks and had to go. Less discussion results when people are in agreement.
Regarding Instagram, William & Kate have their own account - kensingtonroyal. Charles has clarencehouse. H&M were part of that account until they split what was their commonly held staff with W&K last year. I follow the royal family account, clarencehouse, kensingtonroyal, & sussexroyal. Also a few independent accounts - windsor.royal.family is the best, IMO. My Instagram is always full of royal news, but it has been bursting the last few days as the independent accounts cover the latest news along with other sources (Katie Couric has covered it quite a bit, for whatever reason).
Clarence House IG has 964K followers, Kensington Royal 10.8M, Sussex Royal 10.4M, and Windsor.royal.family only 163K.
I thought the videos and photos of George making the Christmas puddings with Will, Charles, and the Queen on the Clarence House IG were great!
@CTTC, agree about the Christmas pudding video. It was quite funny and actually endearing to see the Queen & Prince Charles backing away from George’s vigorous mixing!
I thought that dressing that poor kid up like that was a travesty. That was a blouse he was wearing. I am happy to see the whole royal family shebang go away. If the Harry farce is the beginning, it is all good.
@Sybylla , I didn’t notice his shirt before, but you’re right. That’s awful to put on a 6 or 7 year old boy. I imagine there was some crying or anger getting dressed.
What blouse are we talking about? Link?
Picture of George’s “blouse” (LOL), from a website that follows Kate’s fashion:
I have noticed that William and Kate dress their kids in a more self-consciously “upper-crust” style than Diana did with William and Harry.
I laughing at that blouse photo for so many reasons!
- A blouse on a young boy.
- A WHITE top for mixing up food!
- That face he has in the family photo - he is not enjoying the experience!
- The queen is holding her purse for the casual photo???
Upper class boys have always had to wear some pretty awful (dare I say “feminine?” Yes, I do dare) clothes. George likely has no clue about the bubble he lives in, as all of his friends are in it, too. And if they had him in an Old Navy (or the British equivalent) t-shirt, they’d get flak for that, too. People in the public eye, whether by chance or by choice, are basically screwed.
The blouse has driven me crazy for years. George has been wearing the blouses (Peter Pan collar) since birth - they are upper crust traditions and many are William hand-me-downs. Notice that Charlotte always wears the exact same style dress too. Don’t get me started on the shorts - 365 days a year. George is fortunate that he just turned the magic age where he’s allowed to be ‘pants-ed’. He’ll probably never wear shorts again!
The queen has psychological issues with the purse - she clutches it 24/7. She uses it for signals to her staff too (like if she turns it a certain way or holds it up a certain way - its time to GO).
WOWSER. The power of the purse.
Ok, well, the “blouse” was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting after reading the comments. But yes, it is…rather unfortunate.
