I got admitted to a university. The head tennis coach (got an athletic scholarship) contacted me, I didn't got an acceptance letter from the university.

He will fax the I-20 to me?

Will they accept the I-20 in the consulate?

Do I really need the acceptance letter? If yes, can the coach fax it to me?

Yeah get your coach to fax the acceptance letter to you.

My friend didn't hand in an acceptance letter in his interview (he forgot) but he still got approved.

I'm sure the consulate will accept the faxed I-20.. ?? I think..
There's this barcorde in the right side of page 1, and some big barcode on page 3 (i think) that the consulate scans.. so if the fax doesnt come through accurately (because sometimes, they come out slightly skewed), you might find yourself in a difficult position..

Or just ask your coach to send the I-20 by FedEx..

Consulates know that schools only send 1-20s to admitted students. My brother went last year. His school's decision was online and the physical letter came in really late. He just had the 1-20. Yes tell your coach to fed-ex that right away.
