Big tuition hike for McIntire students

This hasn't received much publicity --from the Finance Committee of the BOV -- " The University recommends a $3,000 tuition differential be assessed to Virginian and non-Virginian third-year McIntire students in 2011-2012. The differential is expected to be in addition to the Board of Visitors-approved increase in base undergraduate tuition for 2011-2012."

So for instate McIntire students after the general increase in tuition for all students, you're looking at somewhere around a 35% tuition hike (if not more) next year. I'm not sure the BOV lives in the real world.

Given that Gov. McDonnell punitively struck at VCU for its 24% hike, it will be interesting to see the reaction from Richmond.

Despite increases, McIntire is still a bargain compared to top private business schools.

Go Mcintire ;)

What would be the new going rate for McIntire. Even if it is higher, all parts of UVA are an absolute bargin.

Good, about time they pay for that new building…

Does anyone know how this works if you have a Virginia 529 Prepaid Tuition Plan? Do Comm School students with those Plans still have to pay the tuition add on?

Contact the administrator of your 529 program. They aren’t organized by UVa.

If anyone is interested, here’s the answer to my Prepaid Tuition question…

“A VPEP contract is guaranteed to cover in-state undergraduate tuition and all mandatory fees at Virginia public community colleges and four-year colleges and universities for the normal full-time course load for students enrolled in a general course of study for the type of contract purchased. If there are additional charges (tuition) for a specific course of study, such as nursing or engineering, or for more than a full-time course load, these additional costs are not covered by VPEP.”

Not the answer I was hoping for, but since I only paid $18,000 for 4 years tuition + fees, an extra $3,000 won’t break the bank.
