"bigger" liberal arts colleges

I think it's important to note the converse about Claremont schools feeling larger than typical LACs, which is that even though so many things are shared, the schools are still separate, allowing each to pay very close attention to its own small (800-1500) student body. A "best of all worlds" scenario for many.

I second Wesleyan University in CT. If you're adventurous, think about U of Tulsa in Oklahoma. Yes, Tulsa. A very good and smallish university with an excellent liberal arts program.

Colgate and Holy Cross each about 2800 students.

Brandeis is a small research University of about 3000 outside of Boston with the feel of a liberal arts college.

University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. 2500 undergrads.

although its officially listed as 2400, Middlebury is actually around 2700 if one counts the study-away students like other colleges do in their total enrollment.

whats the size of trinity?

~2200..another one that has grown from sub-2000 to >2000 over the last couple of decades.

another LAC in Ct...Wesleyan...~2750

I think it also depends... small feel, or small student body?

For small feel but more ug, I second UChicago (4400 ugrad)-- it has a simultaneous small/big feel going on, as well as a strong house system, like Rice's... you will feel like you know a lot of students, but you will always be meeting new ones.

I also think that Tufts (4800, I think?) is an excellent option. When I visited, I loved that the campus had an LAC feel, but with more students around, there were more people to meet.

I disagree with the idea that Dartmouth is essentially a LAC - that said, I’ve never been there.

I think Sarah Lawrence College has a few thousand, but an actual number is surprisingly hard to dig up. It has an academic caliber that you wouldn’t expect from its lackluster selectivity rates (think U of M).

Truman State has about 5,000 students.

University of Minnesota - Morris has about 2,000 students.

Both are public LACs with relatively low list prices, even for out of state.

Sarah Lawrence is rather small, under 1400 undergraduates…

Dang, that is small! Never mind.

Bard has over 2,000 if you count grads as well. Sorry, I’m just trying to go by LACs that I know - e.g. ones that my friends go to.

Sarah Lawrence is also a rather specialized school in that the subjects it offers in depth are rather limited (mainly art, music, some humanities, and psychology).
