what are we suppossed to do in the event that are bike gets stolen?

Simple, call the police, report your registration number, etc. Then go about getting a new bike, cuz the chances that you're gonna get your back is pretty slim. This is precisely why you should get a cheap 60 buck bike from Wal-Mart/Target and then get a good U-Lock.

how necessary is it to have a bike on campus? can students get around to classes etc without a bike?? is it really so difficult to get around campus and to classes without a bike?

Well, it's not...necessary, per se, I mean, there're people that walk and stuff, but a bike or something with wheels is pretty much a standard. And it cuts down on time needed to get to classes/other commitments, which can then be spent on precious nap/work/playtime. :-) And I would definitely not be willing to walk to my job, which is across the campus in the med school, it'd be a 20-minute walk each way.

thanks for reply and perspective! but... uh oh... do you think a freshman can get around ok without one for the first year?

I suppose so. Maybe luck will be good and classes won't be very far away. I think the first thing I'd do if I were that freshman would be to enroll in some psych study and then use the 10 bucks or so to get a skateboard from Wal-Mart. :-P

haha... skateboard!! =)
