Bilbao, Spain

My D's school has recently started a program with University of Deusto and while they offer other study abroad options this program fits with my D's objective of graduating in 4 years. She is attempting to major in Literature with an Education certification. She also wants to minor in Spanish. She is taking summer classes to be able to graduate in 4 years but I have been trying to sway her to consider doing a study abroad. While her school offers this program for an entire year or either semester they also have a program in the summer alone.
With most of the other programs the courses only meet certain Gen Eds and since my D needs to take Gen Eds which also meet some courses needed for the Teacher Ed program these study abroad programs are not an option. The Deusto program allows her to take a Spanish class and an International Lit requirement so it fits in perfectly. So here are my question-
How is Bilbao, Spain? Has anyone done study abroad in the Summer and what are the drawbacks?
I am sure I will have other questions as the thread goes on. Thanks in advance.

D was in Madrid for Study Abroad, but traveled to Bilbao, and she loved it! Go for it!

My S did a summer study abroad in nearby Santander, Spain a few years back and loved it. That area has nice weather, great beaches, daylight until 10:30pm and public transportation to other parts of Spain. He was a science major and a summer study to fulfill gen eds was also his best bet. He studied Spanish lang and Art History. If the program fits her needs, I think it would be a great opportunity.

I was just in Bilbao. Was travelling with DD in Europe and took a commuter bus from San Sebastian to Bilbao and then a tram to the Guggenheim. It was beautiful and I was very impressed at how easy it was to navigate around, even with my not so great Spanish.

Bilboa is a very nice city. Can’t tell you about the study program. The Guggenheim is nice for people who appreciate very modern art. Our friends stayed 10 minutes and wanted a refund. We saw what we could from the lobby and decided to forgo the exhibits.

Summer in Bilbao will probably be one of the highlights of your daughter’s college experience. Make sure she will be able to visit Barcelona, a very young and inexpensive city, with great culture.

Thanks everyone.
