<p>Prestigious schools dont have to be Ivy league.
Also, we are discussing today, not historically.</p>
<p>Of course having a prestigious degree helps, but you've just been given modern examples of presidents who didn't go to elite schools. This isn't even counting the guys who got beat, since lord knows it wasn't where they got their degree that cost them the election. </p>
<p>Besides, sometimes it's not where you get your undergrad degree, it's where you get that last one. Getting into an above average school instead of an elite one is not the kiss of death for your future plans, after all.</p>
<p>True. But realistically speaking getting a degree from a prestigious university gets you ahead of the game. And God knows that can help when running for president of the United States.</p>
<p>I think thats it a correlation vs. causation thing. Many of the presidents have come from elite backgrounds; HYP schools used to be catered almost entirely for these wealthy families.</p>
<p>I think there's nothing wrong about having the country's leading schools educating the country's leading people, including the President.</p>

they should call it "no child left" because everyone drops out because of the testing pressure.</p>

<p>Lots of people who got into the computer business at that time didn't need degrees to make it big. Gates' connections start from his family, and Harvard was an easy place to find fellow uber-nerds, but his above-average level of access and exposure to financial, legal and technical sophistication wasn't necessarily the main ingredient for Microsoft.</p>
