Hi, Which Colleges have the best Biology programs? are there any that let undergrads do research? Thanks, I appreciate it!

Wisconsin and yes. Many of them

Dana, some to look at would be Haverford, Swarthmore and Michigan.

Pretty much any of the top universities will offer a solid undergraduate biology program and provide ample opportunities to engage in research. You really can't go wrong at many places but if your goal is a PhD, then it may help to choose a university with larger, more reputable research programs since you will ultimately need LORs from your PI to apply to grad school.

What kind of bio do you want to do? Molecular/cellular? Systems? Computational? Population? Ecology? Botany? The best places will depend on this, a lot. For instance, if you want to do molecular/cellular, then Berkeley is a top program, but if you want to do ecology, you might be better off with UC Davis.

Wisconsin, Berkeley, Michigan, etc

I would suggest that you try to figure out what else you want from a school (big/small, urban/rural, preppy/artsy, what kind of clubs you want on campus, etc. etc.) first to narrow it down, and then figure out which schools that fit your other criteria also have the strongest bio programs. As other people have said, many schools (including small LACs) have strong programs that allow undergrads to do reaserch.

The one time this might not be as true is if you want a really specific and less "populer" kind of biology (like botany), then you might have to sek out the schools with the best programs. But if you're just looking for a regular bio program, many, MANY schools will give you a really good education with plenty of opertunity for reaserch.

hi there, any suggestions as to which unis are strong in botany?

Wisconsin, UCDavis, Rutgers.

There was just a thread a few day ago about this....

Top Bio Undergraduate Schools

Duke and Johns Hopkins...

University of Washington has excellent biology programs with plenty of research opportunities and research scholarships for undergrads. What particular area of biology are you interested in? Are you looking for a smaller school or a huge one or something inbetween? Urban, rural or suburban? East, West or inbetween?

Every single top school.

Botany...
UWisconsin – Madison comes to mind.

Cornell University
Duke University
Michigan State University
University of California-Davis
University of Florida
University of Georgia
University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Washington University in St. Louis

There are also several universities that are strong in ecology although not necessarily in botany.

Princeton University
Stanford University
University of California-Berkeley
University of Michigan
University of Pennsylvania
University of Texas-Austin
University of Washington
Yale University

^^There was only one undergraduate botany major graduating from the University of Washington this year (among hundreds of other bio graduates).

If it is a smaller uni with research focus?
