Would you guys think it would be a good idea to major in bioengineering as an undergraduate and then apply to dental school. Its just for backup incase getting into dental school doesnt work out. Also if any one has experience in bioengineering program can you tell me how it is. Im not that interested or have a talent with mechanical stuff so I want to know if it would be a bad choice. Thanks

I don’t know much about the bioengineering program, but your undergraduate major has little bearing on professional schools. The most important thing is that you choose a major that you enjoy and you do well in your courses. With predental, you just need to make sure that you take the required courses that dental schools look for. You’ll probably have to take some Biology, Chemistry and Anthropology courses.

There is no Bioengineering major at Stony Brook. Bioengineering is a suggested minor for Biochemistry and engineering students.

There is, however, a Biomedical Engineering program leading towards a BE. This was my initial major (I switched to Biochemistry and graduated). It’s an intense program and if you aren’t proficient in math, physics and “mechanical” things, it’s probably not for you.
