Anybody know if the new Biological Engineering major (course 20) is still being offered in a limited enrollment form? Others have posted (albeit a couple of months ago) that this issue will only be relevant for the classes of 2008 and 2009 due to laboratory space constraints. Is that still accurate?

Also, is the degree ABET accredited (if that is important/relevant for a biologically-based engineering degree)?

I believe it's still going to be relevant only for the classes of 2008 and 2009. For that matter, it actually wasn't even relevant for the class of 2008 -- they said they could accept x students, and x+2 students applied, so they just accepted everybody.

The program is not yet ABET accredited, as the next review of MIT programs by ABET is not until 2007-2008. I would not worry about this at all, to be perfectly honest

Thanks mollie. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to persuing a biologically-based engineering degree rather than focusing in a more established branch of engineering (such as Chem Eng) combined with a biomedical engineering minor for depth? I know I want to pursue a career in bioengineering, but I don't really want to limit my options/job opportunities either.
