It is clear that many got invites to UCB but does anyone know when or if rejections have been kicked out?

Syd,

I still haven't heard from UW, but given that their recruitment weekend is next weekend, I guess I should assume I'm out. I emailed them to verify. I wish this process could be more streamlined so that we could get all the news, good or bad, at once, rather than sit on it for a few weeks and rearrange schedules etc. Ugh!

bionerd- maybe there are multiple weekends? I just got my interview at WUSTL a couple days ago and it is much later than when other people are going. I think someone mentioned that they got waitlisted at UW, so I'm not really sure what their process is since someone here has reported each possibility (reject, interview, waitlist). I think its good that you weren't flat out rejected! :)

sydneya,

Last year UCSD biomed invited people between early january and mid-feb. I got an interview invitation from them in mid-december this year (i applied cancer bio), however, I turned my pre-application in very early. I don't think you should be particularly worried b/c there is probably a good deal of heterogeneity in when they send out interview invites b/t the different BMS "tracks". Hope this helps.

My son heard back from UCSD Graduate Program of Neurosciences this week.
I believe the interview dates are February 20-21 or February 21-22.

I just heard from Indiana University-Bloomington (Biology) by e0mail... I guess I'm turning them down, I haven't really got time to do more than 5 or 6 interviews.

It's a shame though, because there really is some really cool research going on at Indiana. And it's a swing state!

So. Whats up with Harvard BBS? Did they send out ALL their acceptances? I applied to BBS through DMS. Does this mean I'm out?

alleycat1, I'm on the same boat with you. I sure hope they haven't sent out ALL of their acceptances. According to gradcafe.com, I think people heard at various times last year (hopefully they do it that way this year too).

Question - does Harvard MCB have a waitlist?

Got an invite to U Michigan PIBS, Cellular and Molecular Biology, yesterday. I wonder when UCSD will send more invites or rejections.

Applied: UCSF, UCSD, U Michigan, Princeton, Weill Cornell, UNC-Chapel Hill, Vanderbilt, U Virginia, Indiana University
Rejections: UCSF
Interviews: Weill Cornell (2/21), UNC-Chapel Hill (2/7), Princeton (2/1), U Virginia (1/28), U Michigan (3/6)
Acceptances: Indiana University

i might have missed this information but has anyone heard back from Caltech (biology) or Columbia (biological sciences) yet?

Hey molliebatmit, is this true for grad students in MCB as well or only in BBS? I liked the core curriculum on MCB better, but some of the BBS faculty are doing really interesting research...and my interview is with MCB.
[/quote]
Yes, this is also true of MCB students -- through the Harvard Integrated Life Sciences program (HILS), any Harvard biology PhD student can rotate in any Harvard biology lab.

My baymate is MCB, and our PI is DMS Neuroscience. She's mentioned that MCB is unhappy that they're losing students through HILS, and I think next year students will have to learn about non-MCB labs on their own. (My baymate learned about our PI through a big poster session sponsored by MCB, and apparently next year MCB won't include non-MCB PIs at the poster session.)

No, nobody gets priority for rotating in labs (unless there's some MCB priority rule that I'm unaware of). At the point that you're talking to a PI about a rotation, it only matters that you're a Harvard PhD student. My PI is Neuroscience, and the graduate students in my lab are MCB (2), Neuroscience (2), and BBS (1).

There wasn't any more difficulty for me in arranging a rotation in this Neuroscience lab than there was for me to arrange my other two rotations in BBS labs -- it's the same form for all rotations. It also wasn't any more difficult for me to join this lab than it would have been to join a BBS lab.

wow..i didn't know there is such a nice forum....: o...

anyway, i havn't heard anything from Harvard BBS, Stanford ( is that called BBS as well? ), Yale or Columbia at all....does that mean i m done with those schools? : (

Columbia BMS said they already called people, and everybody else is on the waitlist. That was Columbia BMS Neuroscience

Also, yeah, I have no idea what's going on at Stanford (BMS, Immuno). But then again, it was such a looong shot. too long, perhaps :D

unrelated, but does anybody else feel like this is the worst time of the year? ***?! I have a thesis to write and all i do is worry (to no great results, obviously). this system sucks. plus all this email/forum checking starts to feel wearisome--and unstoppable. and yes, i am aware of the irony of complaining about this on the forum itself.

thx undecided...they should just give me a rejection right the way instead of making me to wait 1 month for a rejection...

Undecided - was that the Neurobiology and Behavior program through the College of Physicians and Surgeons, or something else?

aldo003b, yes, that was it

hmm..so should I email or call those schools to check if im rejected ? or i sohuld just peacefully wait for my death : O..

calling will do absolutely nothing to your chances of being admitted, and often the admission coordinators will not give a clear answer. so far, i called just one program at a moment when i was truly bored with myself, and it did not make me feel better at all. but if certainty is what you're looking for, and are willing to waste the time, then you should try calling.

all i want is an email, god dammit :D

why do we have a holiday this Monday...just making the stupid waiting 1 day longer since no one is working on Monday =-=
