Biology/Biomedical Sciences Applicants 2008

Anyone heard back from Harvard Systems Biology, MIT CSB, UCSF (Bioinfo), Berkeley (biophysics) and UCSD (bioinfo)?

Anyone going to OHSU at the end of the month?

I myself did not apply to Stanford Cancer Bio (I applied to Genetics), but I have a friend who applied to cancer bio and heard back a while ago. I also heard back around the same time. Since Stanford sent this notification via email, I doubt they missed anyone they were supposed to invite. I also got a package last Thursday via USPS.

hey goldexp,
I applied to UCSF bioinfo and UCSD on ur lists. I heard back from UCSF in early Jan about an interview and have had no news from UCSD.

Has anyone heard from Berkeley Mol and cell bio program?

Not sure if anyone is still waiting on UChicago, but I just got an invite from them, which conflicts with UW. I guess I'll stick with UW unless they can fit me in somewhere else.

thanks molliebatmit, nickalternate, and zarniwoop3 for your valuable responses.

So it appears that different schools/programs send interview invitations at different time and hold their interviews on several dates. I think it would benefit us all if we post the different interview dates for each schools ... this way, we all get a sense when the interview dates are ... so, if you didn't hear back from a school right away, you can hope to be called for the second round of interview ... etc. It would also give everyone a sense who is attending which interview.

For example, interview dates for:

UCHSC (biomed program): Feb 22-23 and 29-march 1

forgot the most important reason:

Knowing when the interview dates for each school/program will give those who get called for interview at different time/dates a better idea on how to schedule their other interviews ... so as there will not be any schedule conflicts... :)

maomaouchi, yes, I recieved UCB MCB interview last Thursday.

harvard systems already sent out all of its interviews (interviews are this weeken--where I am-- and next weekend). UCB MCB sent out interview invites already as well, as did stanford.

How many interviews are people actually going to? I've settled on five - anymore and I think I would not pass this semester.

How are people handling all the school they are missing? Granted, I'm an unusual case (I'm taking physics as a senior, and I have one fairly difficult plant development class). Has everyone mostly resigned themselves to the fact that they won't be getting many A's this year?

well, I dropped a class (so I'm taking only the minimum to graduate), relinquished all other responsibilities/commitments, and begged my profs to record their lectures. But still, it's definitely hard to keep up, especially when you have classes where you have a good instructor who teaches more than what the textbook covers.

I'm doing five but already graduated, sucks for you guys. ha ha

No, you're right, I'm in the Dept of Pharmacology. But I'm still doing rotations and we can pretty much pick from anyone on the Columbia campus. My current rotation PI is doing admissions for GSAS-Biological Sciences, so I can whine about them too :)

jellyfish -- i think a better idea than asking people to post their interview dates would be to email your program directly. some programs may offer as many as three (i think tsri chemical bio did this last year) and you can't guarantee that every interviewee is on CC. :)

they're more than happy to give you the information; i wrote emails to all of them asking "i'm trying to plan my course schedule for the winter quarter and would like to work around the potential interview dates -- would you be able to tell me of the ones you're offering?" and they all happily obliged.

Oh! You are in Tong's lab, aint' you?~ he's doing some great structural work.

So cool that you can rotate in any lab in Columbia. My boss used to say: try the lab that is doing research that you might have least chance to do in the future, so you won't regret you in the end. Funniely said, but it's good opputunity to gain diverse experiance during rotations. :)

Anyone going to Chicago this Thursday?

Anyone heading to Yale this coming weekend?

I'm gonna be visiting Yale, MCBartist, see you there! I'll be the asian kid with slightly unkempt hair, probably wearing something Rutgers-related, haha

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything from Upenn - Neurosci and when their interviews are. I know their website says Jan and Feb on a rolling basis. I haven't heard anything yet, and it was my top choice, so I am getting anxious!!

If someone could be so kind to msg me or post something, yes or no if you applied also, I'd really APPRECIATE it!!!!!!!!
