Hi,
I’ve been researching this back and forth but I can’t seem to get any straight answers. I’m a post-bacc biology major (completed an ecology-focused thesis), but now I am more interested in psychology with emphasis on neurosci or neuropsychology. I unfortunately didn’t take any courses during undergrad in psych–the only thing that can come close is a behavioral genetics lab-oriented course. I have a day job, and I am thinking of taking some online community college or state university psych core courses in order to build up a reasonable transcript… I am also thinking of switching my day job to a lab/research assistant position in psych/neurosci-based research to get that experience too. So my questions are:
1.) What courses will I need to get into a decent Master’s psych program? (the APA recommended Statistical and Research Methods, Developmental Psych, Abnormal Psych, Neuroscience/Physio, social, cognitive, learning, and personality psychology, which is a lot. However, one other source citing personal experience stated that they got into a Master’s program without majoring in Psychology and having only taken one Psych course. I guess I want to see gauge how many courses I have to take (and pay for).
2.) Will most MA/MS psych schools accept online community college credit (I would prefer to take community college over local state university courses because of the price and more flexible timing)?
I hope I’m posting in the right forum (this is my first time)! If not–please let me know and I will move this question to the proper one.
Hoping that some psych grad students see this!
Thank you and sry for the long msg.
