I am very intrested in Biomedical Engineering. I know there are many ways that you can obtain you degree or degrees in this profession. I'm only a 10th grader but I'm doing as mush research as possible making sure this is the route I want to take before I overload my self with all of these AP classes.
I would like to go to Spelman college to obtain my degree in Biology. Then I would Like to attend a Ms/PhD program(undecided I have time). I know there are several ways you can get into this field. Are there other ways in which I can do this or better ways. I want to at least get my PhD.This will really help me out there on the job market. It will look better than just a masters. Also does anyone know the average salary of A Biomedical Engineer not to be money hungry but if i'm going to bust my butt off I think I deserve some cash for it? Thanks Give me all the information that you have.

I use to want to become a Doctor but the medical forum scarred the heck out of me. They made it seem impossible and they sounded rather suicidal! No Offence!

Krissy, go to nursing school. I have a degree in biology, and I could do nothing with it. Some friends did go to grad school, get their PHD, but they were well into their 30s before they finally got a “real job”. A very lucrative field right now is CRNA, certified nurse anesthestist, or NP, nurse practitioner. But check with the area you want to settle in. Some regions do not recognize these fields. But I always advise young people who want to go into a biology/medical field to go into nursing. Remember, there are thousands of biology majors out there who either don’t get into med school, or run out of money/energy to go into med school. You will be out there competing for a job with them. Even those who get masters in biology wind up teaching high school science. Some states pay well for this, some don’t. But nowhere near what a doctor is paid.

Smart girl to be looking at this as a tenth grader. Good for you for wanting to go to college!

Now, since you mentioned Spelman, are you in the Alabama/Georgia area? UAB has some excellent health majors, and with the hospital right there, easy opportunity for internships/clinicals and job entry. University of Alabama has an excellent new nursing school as well, with the hospital right across the street, too.

Good luck!

If you set a plan for yourself as a sophomore in high school and keep it for 8 years I would be shocked. Ha just last year I wanted to be a cop, and a year before that a swat officer, and now I’m going to college for mechanical engineering. It will change, trust me
