Is there a difference between the two and what are the advantages/disadvantages of having one degree over the other?

Medical focuses more on medicine and bioe focuses more on genetic engineering and things appropriate to any living system.
In reality, the 2 are interchangable and often even mean the same thing, depends on the school.

This very question has been asked several times before in this same forum so you can do a search for more responses.

Strictly speaking, bioengineering is more broad than biomedical engineering. It includes biological engineering with industrial and agricultural (and not just medical) applications. However, in the context of university departments, the two are interchangeable. Most bioengineering programs limit themselves to biomedical technology. When applying to college programs, you should not make any distinctions by name.
