Bis001b

Hi! Has anyone taken David Spiller for BIS001B? How was it? Were there any labs? How were the midterms and final?

Thanks a lot!

There’s no such thing as the BIS 1ABC series anymore. It’s now BIS 2ABC. Do you mean BIS 2B?

Yes, there is a lab portion for BIS 2B. There is a pre-lab that you must submit either in person or via Smartsite (depends on your professor. I had Dr. Strong and Dr. Keen when I took BIS 2B and we had to submit our prelab on Smartsite–there’s an electronic version that your professor will make available to you if this is the case. Most BIS 2 professors will have you submit your prelab electronically, but if you have issues with this you’re allowed to turn in a hardcopy to your TA) on Monday by 9am the week that you have a lab, and then postlabs are due the following week (hardcopy–there’s no electronic version of post labs like there is for prelabs).

From reviews on ratemyprofessors, it seems like Dr. Spiller is a decent professor–even though there’s only 5 reviews, all of are positive, and it seems like the average on his exams is a B/B-.

yeah, sorry i mean BIS 2B… So do all the BIS and HDE classes require labs?:(

Nope; take a look at [url=http://catalog.ucdavis.edu/programs/bis/biscourses.html]this page/url; if it says “laboratory” in the description, then there is a lab.

In HDE, the only classes that have labs are HDE 120 (Research Methods in Human Development) and HDE 140L (Laboratory in Early Childhood; must be taken concurrently with HDE 140. However, you don’t need to take either of the 140 course if you’re not aiming to deal with children).

Don’t worry, the BIS 2B and BIS 2C labs are super easy though–it’s mostly observations.

Ohh i see. Thanks a lot!
Because I was thinking of doing a minor in Psychology, and some of the the prerequisites for the courses are BIS and HDE courses. I am not really a fan of labs, so if there are hard labs to do for those courses, I might have to reconsider that :
