Black/African American Students at USC Life and Environment...

@Goldenstate - I can’t answer that either - but I can say that I sat at a USC breakfast with a young man who was initially upset to be assigned to that floor when he asked to be placed somewhere else. He didn’t want to be stereotyped. But in retrospect said it was one of the best things that happened to him at USC - met his best friend there.

@Druce1992 - there’s not much more that I can say to convince you. But be assured, we are not saying the same thing. I don’t hate my race and I don’t label them as thugs in an example of why embracing shared cultural roots should be avoided. I feel for you. I do. But you aren’t answering the original OP’s question - just criticizing them and those of us who are talking about the environment.

So I think maybe, you’ve said your peace. The rest of us would like to welcome the OP as a new Trojan and let him or her know there is a healthy climate of diversity - but also clubs (many of them) and organizations that are specific to African American interests that will serve the purpose and act as cultural support.

@ArtsandLetters go back through the thread and point out where i said “I hated my race”. Damn i cant stand when people put words in my mouth.

@TheWeaver nah, that is culture. Look up the anthropology definition, the sociological definition etc. It is thoughts, behaviors, emotions and customs of a group. And these usually emanate from one person and expand to the group as a whole. It really comes from one person. You can think of it however you wish, but intellectually that is what it is.

@druce1992‌ I pity you. Truly.

OP, a word of advice, never adopt ^his outlook. Be who you are, enjoy the elements of your culture and all cultures. And do not be ashamed of it. Ever.

@veritasrmc your reading comprehension skills is terrible.

@druce1992 I’m sure you meant are*. What a telling mistake…

@veritasrmc I laugh at people who point out grammar like it is some signal of intelligence, Its Not. Do math, then come back to me.

I was wondering @druce1992 if we could get back to the OP’s question. It was about resources, not a request for a rant about how his/her needs are misplaced culturally.

The question asked what is available for students of color on campus. The response is - for those who need to reconnect there are many student clubs and organizations, an active Black Alumni group, and even a reception to welcome those students on to USC’s campus.

It’s a nice environment for those who need to, or want to, take advantage of it.

@ArtsandLetters you went off on a tangent too. Don’t try to act like you were trying to take “the higher” ground. Phony.
