Black MIT Admissions

Hey guys!
Soooo I’m a senior in high school, and by the title I’m guessing you can tell I’m African-American. Lately, besides the whole affirmative action bit, I’m still slightly discouraged at applying to these top-dog colleges. Here are my stats:

-3.98 GPA (unweighted; weighted at around 4.5)
-AP/IB Classes (going for the IB Diploma)
-Awaiting my SAT scores (around 1400-1600; if they’re too low I’ll retake them)
-Going to take the Math 2 and Physics Subject Test
-Regular Decision
-Average ECs (Honor societies, clubs, volunteers)

I have been awarded for this Black Leadership thing, but that’s about it in terms of significant positions. Can I measure up to my peer with these qualifications? (Especially when I hear how this one kid had started his own club and volunteers every day at an organization) I know this may sound redundant but I just really need some encouragement!

MIT is a reach for everyone. If you get a 1500+ on your SAT and 750+ on your subject tests, you have nothing to lose by applying . Just be sure you have match and safety schools on your list.
