Blair School of Music

I haven't seen a thread on Blair School of Music for 2012 yet. Does anybody know when results will come out? I heard they usually come earlier than regular admissions. I'm so nervous! Vanderbilt is my top choice and I really really want to get in. Does anybody know how competitive your academics need to be for Blair? I think I had a fairly good audition with pretty good feedback but my academics are definitely on the lower side. I have around a 3.6 uw(very rigorous courseload) and a 2100 SAT. I'm hoping that's enough though:/. Good luck to everybody waiting for their results! :)

Do they usually come earlier? I hadn’t heard that, awesome! Vandy’s my top choice too and it is SUCH a long wait. Umm they look at your application as a whole. As in, both your audition and academics are looked at. A 2100 and 3.6 is not bad at all, especially if you had good ECs and your application showed that you challenged yourself. Best of luck!

I have stayed in contact with the professor I auditioned for, and he emailed me today telling me that I have been accepted. It’s pretty exciting and he told me that the letter should be coming next week. You shouldn’t be worried about your GPA/SAT (I personally got a 2100, 32 ACT), if your audition and theory test went well and you aren’t a disaster academically (which you clearly aren’t), I think you’ll be fine! Good luck!

Congrats ZazieRainyday! May I ask what instrument you play? I’m really nervous though because I didn’t have the opportunity of flying to Vanderbilt and auditioning live. The Assistant Dean of Admissions, Dwayne Sagen, recorded my audition at a regional audition and told me that I was a very impressive player and went out of his way to find my parents to let them know that(fingers crossed that is a good thing!). I’m hoping that not auditioning live won’t hurt me too much :(.

Thank you! I’m a classical guitarist hoping to dual major at Vanderbilt if I go there. I flew out to audition personally, but I don’t think a recording will hurt at all. I think that anybody going out of their way to express their appreciation for your playing is a good thing! I wouldn’t worry about the live audition thing, best of luck!

Admissions results for Blair are supposed to be mailed out tomorrow, at least that’s what Dean Sagen told me at my regional audition.

I got an email from the trumpet professor last night informing me that not only did I get in, but they’re offering me at $25,000 scholarship as well. He said the official admissions info would be out soon.

Is that $25,000 per year scholie at Blair afsd94? Great!

Congrats afsd94 that is quite an amazing offer! Has anybody gotten anything in the mail yet? And has anybody gotten in before without being contacted by the professor(s) earlier?

Hi everyone-I enjoyed reading you guys posts! I applied to Vandy (more out of parental pressure than anything) as it was/is not my first, second, or third choice. The Blair School just seemed kinda drab to me (maybe because it was raining all that day) and I did not get a great vibe from my audition panel (Im a vocalist). Northwestern was my first choice (deferred), the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was my second (admitted) and Michigan (admitted) was my third.

It will be interesting to see if I get admitted to Vandy or not, I guess the letter will be arrive Monday or Tuesday. But even if admitted my parents cannot afford the outrageous tuition!

I wish everyone the best of luck.

Thanks! I just received the official admissions letter from Blair. I believe it said that the full admissions packet from Vanderbilt should be received by April 1st.

You received it on a Sunday?

I still haven’t heard from Blair or the school itself  Has anyone else heard anything yet?

Nothing in the mailbox - no call either. Anyone else?

No, I got the letter from Blair on Saturday. I got my official letter/packet from Vanderbilt on Monday. As far as region goes, I’m in Florida.
