Bloomberg push NYC sophs and juniors to take PSAT

Excerpt from NYT, 8-22-2006:

NYC will pay the College Board $1.2 million a year in a push to get all of the city's high school sophomores and juniors, as many as 150,000 students a year, to take the PSAT/NMSQT, the precursor of the SAT.

where I went to high school the PSAT was given to all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, and the county (I assume) paid for the sophs to get their scores.

It was a half day and the seniors didn't come to school... and the unmotivated underclassmen didn't come either.

Last year, the Los Angeles Unified School District paid for sophomores to take the test. I don't think they paid for juniors. They also administered it during school hours. I don't think it was mandatory, but it was highly encouraged.

My kids' public school pays for 9th, 10th, and 11th graders to take PSATs. Overkill? Probably.

In the back to school packet for my kids high school I noticed that they are giving the PSAT to all Juniors this year. This is the first year they have done this. It is to be given on a school day versus a Saturday. I as assuming that someone is going to pick up the tab. This is a Ca public school.

Our school district (in NC) pays for the PSAT for all high school students (9-11th grades) every year too.
