So I just took a practice test from the BB and realized that after test no. 3, all the scaled scores come in ranges... this is probably a stupid question, but does anyone know how to come up with a more uh... definite curve for the BB tests?

The reason I ask is because the range is usually around 100 points unless you're scoring really close to 800 or 200. E.g. my raw score for a critical reading portion was 62/67 and my scaled score is anywhere between 690-790. After I combined the math, reading, and writing ranges, my scaled score is basically anywhere between 2110-2390 (realistically 2100-2300 I think), which doesn't really help at all.

The curves are determines by how well the 1.5 million test-takers do on the test. Thus, I decided to use the same curve as test 3, which I think has the harshest curve(-2 CR=800, not -3)

im wondering the same thing, usually i just look at tests 1,2,3 to get a score

The tests after the third one in the BB were never administered (and are made up, in part, from questions taken piecemeal from pre-2005 SATs), so the curves given are estimates. The best method may be to take the middle of the range. Or, you could be pessimistic and take the bottom, or optimistic/top.

Any non-SAT test, including any tests from Kaplan, Barron’s, PR, etc., should have ranges as well, but often they give single numbers, which are just guesses.

I don’t even really look at scores at that much anymore. Just look at what you missed; an exact score won’t help that much. If you must, you could just take the middle score in the range.

Yeah I had that problem too, lol. My parents asked me what I was scoring and I was like “umm…” since some of them are like 700-800!

I think I’m going to use this. http://www.erikthered.com/tutor/SAT-Released-Test-Curves.pdf

^If you can (this applies to the OP as well), use actual exams: the first three in the BB, as well as the three practice tests (all real SATs with actual scores) that you can grab as downloadable PDFs from CB (see e.g. [thread=757034]this thread[/thread]).
