Why is it that when I went to ratemyprofessor.com just to see the ratings of the BME professors, they were ALL bad!!! You, Tian, Yuan, Trusky, etc. all had really bad ratings, like "avoid if possible"! Isn't this the 2nd best BME program in the US/world we're talking about?? And why do they all sound Indian/Vietnamese/Korean? Are there no good, authentic, American BME professors?

...I'm going to pretend you didn't just say that.

There are certainly some "no good" "authentic" "American" BME professors - not necessarily at Duke - but why would you want to take a class from a no good professor anyway? Oh - and the race-based pre-judging attitude? Gonna have to ask you to check that at the door.
-Thanks,

Yeah, if I wasn't clear, in my previous reply I was pretty much saying something along the same lines as Dr. G's "race-based pre-judging attitude" comment. If you're going to come to a school like Duke, you'd be much better off if you ditch the idea that the only professors worth taking classes from are the ones with last names like Johnson and Smith. Seriously, I see posts like this one sometimes and my mouth just drops open because I can't believe someone actually said that. Unbelieveable.

Whoa, sorry, I didn't mean to pre-judge. Re-reading my post, I do sound really ****ed and pre-judging, and I am embarrassed about what I said. I'm really sorry about that. Imagine that: a valedictorian who is not a perfect model for others. I have no hard feelings about foreigners or URMs; my best friends are. I just wanted to make sure that they were of good...erm..."quality"...if you will. But yeah, I do sound really angry for no reason. I must have been mad about something else. Forget about this thread. Don't worry: this is not representative of the kind of student you will be seeing soon. Guess I have a lot to learn, eh? lol

There are certainly many American BME professors - Reichert, Malkin, Nightingale(s) among others. If I am guessing correctly, you may be implying that foreign professors are "worse" because of the communication barrier with english not being their first language. I don't think you need worry, some professors' English may not be the Queen's standard, but you will definitely be able to understand them, after all it's not like they're discussing British Lit or something; they eat, sleep and breathe this stuff and have to write papers so their scientific english is adequate.
