Boarding school in south?

check Carmel California. Pebble beach is located in Carmel California. Simply gorgeous, beautiful. Check out the 17 mile drive.

I still can't find anything on Carmel, CA. According to city-data.com, there's only a Carmel, IN, NY, and ME.

Found it.

What a magnificent School and if I were in that Region this would be the choice hands down!

If you're interested in riding, Chatham Hall is a great choice. I'm a CH grad (currently at Duke.) For academics, riding facilities, and fellow students I can't recommend it enough.

Thanks for your help, everyone. will legacy status help at schools? What is Thacher's reputation in colleges? By the way, no one has answered this question, so I'll put it again: when should be the earliest time to schedule a tour and interview, just so I can get it out of the way? Also, I'm considering applying to harder schools like SPS or Andover, but I'm almost certain I'm not going to get in, at all. Should I try though?

This place is awesome. About 30 minutes from the beach, too.

Tours and interviews usually start around Oct. 1st but probably vary by school. You can probably schedule them now or in August. Be sure to schedule them for a time that school is in session so you can get the flavor of the school. The earlier you can schedule them the better so you can schedule around your school holidays. That way you won't miss school, and you can keep your grades up. If you think you want to apply to Andover and Exeter, then include them in your school tour. You can decide which schools you want to apply to after your tours. Filling out all the applications is time consuming. You will set priorities by then. I also suggest taking an early SSAT. You can re-take later if you don't like your score. If you do really well, you will have it out of the way. Good luck!

If you dont care that the school is 4 miles north of the Mason-Dixon line in Pennsylvania, Mercersburg Academy is a great small boarding school with a big endowment and lots of increasingly utilized potential, most recently manifested in the construction of a new $28 million Fine Arts center. There are a lot of students from Virginia, and a good many students from North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana and Texas as a whole. The headmaster is also a Tennessee native, and his love for deep-fried turkey is undisputable (he talks about his favorite dish often during vacation time as an ongoing joke). Many students decide to head south for college, notably the top Virginia schools (UVA, Washington and Lee, William and Mary, Virginia Polytechnic Institute) and the University of the South (popular), as well as Duke, UNC (Ashville and Chapel Hill), Emory, Vanderbilt, and so on.

I agree with tokyorevelation9. Mercersburg definitely has a southern feel. It is a strong academic school with incredible resources and a gorgeous campus. Unlike most of the southern schools, however, it does not have a riding program. Even though it has joined the MAPL, it still plays many of the DC area schools, including EHS, in athletics.

Do you know if it's true Benicio del Toro went to Mercersburg?

Yes he did, as did Jimmy Stewart.
