If parents of incoming freshmen have questions about student life, dorms, Boston, or the school in general, I’m happy to answer them. When my only child went off to BoCo last year, I really had no idea what was ahead for us both…and there are a few things I wish I knew then that I know now!

I don’t really know what to ask…can you tell us a few of the things that you are referring to when you mention there are things you wish you knew then that you know now? Daughter will be a BFA MT class of 2013.

I can only speak for myself, for my experience, and for my kid…so I’d prefer to do that via PM!

Can you please give us your email address? Thank you for being so helpful with this.

If you click on the member’s name, options come up and one option is to “send email to this member” and then the email gets sent to that member’s address.

My daughter is starting @ BOCO next month and we have 2 questions. What knid of pass does she need for the T and will she need a Counterpoint Cafe card? We’re purchasing the 10-meal/week plan.

My daughter will be a Senior at BoCo. Honestly, she never used the T her first year. She spent all her time hanging locally with her classmates, and learning the area surrounding the school. I’d hold off on that unless she was working somewhere else or planned on spending a lot of time away from the campus. The Counterpoint card comes in much handier, since the main meals are several blocks from the school. My daughter used that for morning coffee and snacks during the day. I’d say it would definitely be used, and I’d put money towards that before I’d put it towards a T card.

I agree with lynnm. They’ll only use the T for recreational stuff on weekends, and your D can just pay as she goes. I bet she won’t spend $20 on the T her first semester. The 10-meal plan is the best way to start out…there will be many days where your D won’t have time to get to the caf, and the Counterpoint Cafe card will come in very handy. I send my D Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts cards and they are much appreciated.

Thanks for the replies! The suggestion of Starbucks cards is a good one. I’m sure we will have other questions as we start to get things together.

VAMTh, when you come to Boston next, take a walk over to The Prudential Center (the Pru) right down Boylston Street. There’s a great food court and the kids are always going over there for something on weekends or at night. Maybe you could get a gift card to one of those places, if there is something there that your D likes.

We stayed very near the Pru Center when we visited in April. Neat place! There is just so much in walking distance. I’m really looking forward to getting to know another city and this time it will be a lot thru my D’s eyes. Have you heard of any safety issues walking around at night?

Not really. You always have to exercise caution no matter where you are but I always found the area to be safe with thousands of kids on the streets even late at night. Your daughter will be well informed as to the area or areas she needs to avoid.

Can anybody give me an idea when this happens? We visited the 3rd week of April and last years freshman were preparing for it and planning on some extra rehearsals that weekend. I’m a singer myself and being asked to contract for events Spring 2010. I WILL NOT MISS THIS!

Last year it was April 30 and May 1, I think, or perhaps April 29 and 30.

I would email Bill Casey directly. He might have a better idea. Because we no longer have the theater, they may split up the classes.

It’s a great show so enjoy.
