Boco

So… quick questions… how selective is Boco as in does anyone know class numbers and is there any chance of merit and or talent aid there?
Thanks!

At one point someone calculated that admission rate was 18-20% based on things they were told at the audition by faculty. Each class has about 65 students, broken into 3 or 4 sections. There is a small chance of a small amount of aid as evidenced by reports the past couple of years. When my daughter applied 3 years ago we were told all the aid went to boys, but seems in the past couple of years there have been reports here of a few girls getting some! Good luck!

@theaterwork This year’s freshman class is between 60 and 65 (not sure, exactly - there’s a bunch of 'em!) - there were two accepted who didn’t attend, at the last minute as one had financial issues and the other booked a national tour of Cinderella just before the school year started. They have been divided into 5 “cores” of around 12 or 13 students each, and do quite a few, but not all, classes with their core, with whom they become extremely close. Each successive year they mix up the cores so that by the end of the four years, most will have been in each other’s cores.

All the dance classes are leveled, based on assessments the first week, so they are with a mix of years if they’re proficient dancers. Tap, ballet, jazz are all assessed separately, so you can be beginner tap and, say level 5 (there are 6) in jazz.

When my d visited last year she went in thinking that a large class size might be a negative, but came out really liking it and liking that you got to know and work with different people each year. I don’t know the admission percentage rates, but do know that most if not all of their Unified slots were full. I can tell you from what I’ve seen and heard thus far, the talent level is high. I knew the dance would be strong, but I’ve been surprised at all the great voices.

BoCo gives no real need-based financial aid – it’s all talent-based. No idea of how it’s allocated; my D did get enough to allow her to attend – but I’ve heard of students who did not receive any aid.

@rampions where did your daughter land?

@Ducky312 - she is at BoCo now, which is the reason I know so much about it. She’s very happy there and working hard.
