Book buying

Where should I buy my books? At amazon I’m finding used books costing 8$ (with excellent seller ratings), the same books which cost $100+ at the brown bookstore, even the used ones.

Right now I’ve ordered the book from Amazon, but I was wondering if you guys could give any further advice?

I buy all my books from amazon and save a ****load of money. I think it's worth waiting the week-2 weeks until you get it (as long as you order a week or so before classes... or at least, the classes you're 99% sure you want to take). If you end up not taking the class, you can always sell it back through amazon or dailyjolt etc. I think this year I saved over $150 buying on amazon and the books are in great condition - can't complain.

A general question. Are there any substantial savings from buying used books from the bookstore? How much do u get when u sell then back at the end of the year?

Yes, how much would you expect to get back by selling them back to the bookstore? Or is there anything better to do with them?

yup...someone?

Buying used will often save you a good amount. I typically buy used from teh book store when I can, when I have to buy new I buy from Amazon because 9/10 times it's cheaper on Amazon, I have Amazon Prime, and my Amazon credit card is triple points on Amazon purchases.

Selling back books will rarely make you anything near what you think is fair, but it's something. I don't sell my book backs, but that's a personal philosophy/feeling thing.

Son couldn't even sell some of his books back to the bookstore -there were 2 courses that weren't being offered (one the prof was on sabbatical). Both of these classes had like 9 books each for the course, so he sold on amazon and has sold all but 4 so far. It really is very easy to post and then send when they are sold-you send through usps-media mail-its a special book rate and it costs only a few dollars, for even a large textbook.
He did just sell one book back to the bookstore-an Econ textbook in excellent condition (like new) and they gave him $50. I am sure we paid substantially more than that for it, but I don't remember. The point is, they have to be offering the course that next semester or they won't buy it back, but there are other options.
