Hello all. I've been looking at a few schools that ask for a list of all of the books you have read in the past year. They specify to asterisk the books that were required for class.

Just wondering what everyone thinks that this question is for - what info does it really provide and what are they looking for?

I have no idea what they use this information for. But I can say that I try to list all of the books that I did honestly read. I figure, if they’re gonna accept me, they’re gonna accept me knowing I like to read the Twilight Saga in addition to Wuthering Heights. Or in the case of periodicals, Vanity Fair along with The Times.

It’s another way to fill in the sketch your application provides. It says something about your academic self outside of school as well as the rigor of your English class.

You don’t have to list every book. What books reveal the most about you and your reading style?

thanks, I’m just concerned that it will look like I don’t read enough. Which I don’t but only because I am so busy with other extracurriculars, that I don’t have time.

And PrinzeMuzic, I’ll be listing the Twilight series as well. I loved the series. :)

GUYS!!!

they use this to see which books they should use in the english classes. It would be redundant if 90% of applicants read, say, Catcher in the Rye, and then a college english class uses the book for study.

I don’t know if listing Twilight is going to do wonders for you application. But that’s just my opinion. You should go ahead and list every single book you have read cover-to-cover, so that the college will get a good perspective on you as a reader outside of classes.
