<p>Where do I find the book list for Fall 2008?</p>

<p>On the Duke Textbook store website. Click textbooks online. (link on the left menu bar) When the list is up you should be able to select the fall 2008 semester. (right now just summer is up)</p>
<p>I'd also like to note that some of your classes (such as writing 20) may or may not have the books listed up there when the list comes out. The list is a list of books given to the bookstore so that they will stock them. Some teachers won't tell you what the book is till you get to class. (usually they have them ordered at the Regulator) This will really only happen with English classes or some other humanities. Science classes will always have books stocked by the bookstore.</p>
<p>And some classes won't even have textbooks (handouts, or ebooks that you may or may not have to pay for).</p>

<p>Oh wow, having to buy a minimum of 5 books all costing between $100-150 is not fun at all...my poor poor wallet is just taking a pounding.</p>

<p>I remember first semester freshman year I spent $625 on books alone. That was a terrible day.</p>
<p>Yeah, I bought my books from half.com and amazon for next semester. Still cost me an arm and a leg, but it was almost 40% less than what the Dukestore wanted (~$800).</p>

<p>Madboy121: first I'd like to say look into buying them online instead of from Duke. You have no idea how much money you can save doing that. (not for all books, but for most) </p>
<p>If you simply must purchase your books from Duke, then you have two options of course. New and used. (not all books are available used) If you are going to be purchasing all new books because you are a super rich kid who has money to burn then feel free to just wait or buy autographed copies off ebay or whatever. If you are interested in buying used books you can either pay for them now and go pick them up at the Duke store when you get there or you can wait till you get there and pick out the books yourself. The advantages here is if you order now then you are more likely to get used books as they sometimes run out. If you wait then you have the ability to see the books and pick and choose the one that is in the best condition.</p>
<p>Also, for those purchasing used books from Duke: be warned! Some things will be listed with used prices that actually will not be sold used. These can include new editions of books and "packages" like chemistry books. You won't know till you show up at the textbook store and there isn't a used book around.</p>
<p>Oh and to answer your question: yes you can pay via flex when you get to campus. (or order now) I'm not sure <em>why</em> you'd want to pay via flex. I find it to be only useful because it is the only way for me to pay for the laundry facilities. Otherwise flex is just an inconvenient substitute for cash that can be just as easily achieved with a credit card. (though I guess it is a convenient way to charge one's parents if they pay the bursar's bill? I pay my own bills though so I never really keep more than 50 bucks on my flex account)</p>
<p>Hey guys, does anyone know which (if any) textbooks are needed for FOCUS classes, particularly the medieval/renaissance cluster (venice and music class)? It's not included in the textbook list on the Duke store page.</p>
<p>There's no textbook listed for Econ55. Is there an error on the site or is there actually no textbook for that class?</p>
<p>For Econ 55, you'll probably be using the book that Nechyba wrote. He'll give it to you in pdf form.</p>
<p>He still hasn't gotten that thing published? We got the PDFs when I took the class 2 years ago, and it seemed pretty complete then.</p>
<p>On the bright side, it is an excellent book, and Nechyba who I hear is teaching it again this semester is an excellent professor.</p>
<p>for econ 51's book, does it require the my access kit and web access stuff, or would i be able to buy a used one online without that stuff?</p>
