book review essay - too raunchy?

This question pertains to a Summer School application which I am doing for next year. But I thought I should put this here as it is more of a genetic college essay question.

I know that for the question in which your are supposed to talk about a book read recently and its impact/characters, most people write about the books they have read in school (since most of us have no time to read at home) which happen to be classics or anything equally genetic. People usually write about the same books, so how acceptable is it to do something different?

I want to write about Vladimir Nabokov's novel Lolita, which bears a highly sexual /unethical connotation. So would the reviewers be turned off or intrigued? I don't want to follow everyone else's footsteps but try to set myself apart, but would it be too radical?

Thanks!

It could be too radical. Check to see if you could talk to the admissions people at the summer school to see if the topic is appropriate.
