Booking hotels for Fall 2016 Move In Weekend and Parents Weekend - is it time to do this already?

Ok, it seems rather ridiculous to be talking about booking hotels for move in and parents weekend next year, but here I am doing it. We were out to dinner with some friends whose child is going somewhere else and they talked about booking their hotels for move-in and parents weekend. So when we got home from dinner I did some web surfing to try to figure out the OSU dates.

Seems like move-in day could be Saturday 8/20/16 (first day of classes is 8/23) and parents weekend is tentatively scheduled for 8/21-8/23/16.

When we made a visit to OSU in April of this year we stayed at a Springhill Suites hotel that was pretty new. We really liked it so I figured I’d just call them up to make reservations for both of these weekends. Lo and behold that hotel is sold out for both of those weekends.

I was able to get rooms at a nicely reviewed Hampton Inn and Suites so maybe there is plenty of hotel room availability and it’s just the particular hotel I was interested in that is sold out.

But I thought I’d put this out there in case others have favorite hotels that they want to book at for next year.

@adlgel note a typo–Parents weekend is tentatively scheduled for 10/21-10/23/16. You are correct on the move-in dates in August. Yes, it is good to start reserving a hotel room for both dates early, even now. Last year we made reservations for the Blackwell in January. That hotel fills up quickly, because its the only hotel on campus and you can lock in a little lower rate by booking now. But that hotel is pricy. There a whole bunch of good hotels at more reasonable lower rates on Olentangy River Road. The Hilton Garden Inn is right next door to the Hampton Suites. Both are excellent and decently priced. Both usually have availability. Also the Hampton Inn downtown is another good hotel we have stayed at. But it’s a bit more expensive than the ones on Olentangy River Road.
