Well, I finally went to the movies and saw Borat last night.

It was funny. For all the critical hype, however -- that it is the most shocking, most cruel, and most outrageous comedy ever -- I feel that it fell kind of short. I think it is because I am a long-time fan of The Ali G Show, and thus I was fully expecting what I was about to see. (BTW, many of the things that Borat does on the TV show are pretty much as crazy/funny as anything he does in the movie, barring the nudity.) For people who went into the movie cold, without a familiarity with the show and the character, it probably was a pretty damn shocking spectacle, but to me it was just... funny. There were also a lot of scenes -- like the ones with the feminists and the gays -- that could have been played out to fuller effect, which usually are on the show.

Well, my friends' answer to everything is "let's go see Borat!" over and over again, so I've seen it quite a few times. I've seen it four, and my sister has seen it I think seven times. We (mostly they) travel 30 minutes at 9 PM to go to a cheap 3$ theatre at northern Illinois university. Just to see bloody Borat.

I really liked it. I hold a wee bit of contempt for the ideological downfalls of the United States, to say the least, so it was all the more funny. And I loved the irony of Borat speaking hebrew when he should've been speaking Kazakh. But after the 2nd time around, it's not so funny anymore.

But nothing is funnier than Secession Blvd (drive?).

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I did watch 4 episodes of Da Ali G Show yesterday :)

I think it's hilarious/tragic the the funniest things on the show aren't his script...it's the stupid things these people say in all seriousness.
If you turn off your brain for a bit, it's the most hilarious thing you've ever seen. If you think about it, though, it makes you pretty sad.

Stop humiliating America, you bigots! Hahaha, and Pat Buchanan's gangster impression had me on the floor.

I absolutely agree with the OP, as a fan of Da Ali G show for 4 years now, I was somewhat let down by the movie. All my friends who hadn't watched the show regularly thought it was truly amazing, whereas to me it felt just like watching the show. (well, with the exception of the wrestling scene)

Before I saw it, this girl I know said I wouldn't like it because it makes fun of everyone except white people..way to totally miss the theme of the movie..

Borat is the funniest movie I have ever seen, though it's just a rehash of Da Ali G Show. I seriously couldn't breathe during the wrestling scene, it was so nasty and funny.

I liked it a lot. Some people I know were insanely offended (which I find ridiculous, since the point of the movie was to make fun of Americans...) but I laughed the whole way through.

I do think it fell a little short of my expectations (I don't think I'd see it again; it was funny once and I'm not sure it would be as funny a second or third time) just because I saw it late, after the huge hype buildup. On the whole, though, I think it was hilarous, and definitely worth seeing. :]
