Boston College is definitely my first choice, and my stats all match up pretty well, except for my SAT scores which are slightly low but I am retaking them in December. I am planning on applying RD, and I was just wondering if anyone had an idea as to what a letter of recommendation from a professor at the college will do for my app? My great uncle was a Jesuit professor at BC and just died in the past year, so his colleague wrote a letter on my behalf, and I was just wondering what sort of weight this may have. Thanks!
It really depends. If your great uncle’s colleague really knows you than it could have a decent impact. If he doesn’t really know you and he’s just doing it as a favor than it is likely that will come across in the recommendation. The professors tend to be honest in these sorts of things; not to say that he won’t write a good recommendation. b\But I think there’s a difference between a good recommendation and a strong recommendation and strong recommendation and the admissions professors can definitely tell the difference.
It also depends if the professor works in the program you plan on enrolling in.
