Boston college - alumni recommendations?

My child is applying to BC. I’m an alum. Some of the other schools have programs where alums can email letters of support, but BC does not.
Do you think this would help to have some family friends/alums send something, and if so how to submit?

I don’t. They’ll know that he’s a legacy from the Common App. If they wanted more, they’d ask–or at least tell you how to submit it.

I strongly suspect they have plenty to read already. I would hesitate to send them more to read than they’ve asked for.

Thanks Sikorsky, what you are saying makes sense in general, but since my DH’s alma mater does have such a program, we’re looking for advice from anyone who may have specific feedback from BC admissions regarding alumni recommendations…

In that case, you might be better off posting your question on the Boston College board. Or calling the admissions office at BC and asking them.

Sikorsky is correct. If BC wanted to read more stuff in the application, they’d ask for it. If your son is a legacy, that is all the info that BC needs. (It’s a small plus factor.)

Letters from random alums really add no value to the app, unless that alum is an employer/supervisor. Otherwise, a letter that says, I’ve known Johnnie since he was three and he’s a good kid and a good fit for BC…is rather generic.

A few years back there were replies in this CC forum from several angry BC alumni parents who D/S did not get accepted, even though they had been giving their annual $100-$500 to BC. I’m sure it happens more often than those few posts.

bluebayou words it well in his reply above.
