Boston College CSOM vs Berkeley

Hi guys,

I am interested in pursuing a career in the finance sector. Among the schools that I have been admitted into, Berkeley and BC CSOM are the most attractive options. In terms of location, I would prefer Berkeley (I am an international). But BC has smaller class sizes that I think suits me better as compared to Berkeley.

If i were to go to Berkeley, I would be aiming to get into Haas. But do you guys have any opinions on which business school is better/ more prestigious that would improve my future career outlook?

As an international, the Berkeley name is far superior. And prestige is big for internationals.

That being said, at Cal you would be in the College of Letters and Sciences and have to transfer into Haas your Soph year. There is no guarantee, since the transfer approval is based primarily on grades. But if you have the grades, Haas is one of the few undergrad b-schools with a national reputation. (CSOM has a excellent reputation in the Northeastern U.S.)

Nevertheless, IMO, prestige trumps all since you are an international. Even an Econ degree from Cal would serve you better than a degree from CSOM.

(And this from a big supporter of BC.)

Well, although I am an international, I am planning for a career in the US. So prestige in the US itself is more important for me. I was just wondering if there was a huge disparity between CSOM and Haas in terms of prestige in the US itself (Since I’m not there).

And I don’t think I am too worried about getting the grades to get into Haas if I really work hard.

Thanks anyway for your response!
