Boston College, Villanova, Georgetown

As the college decisions near, I think of more and more questions to google, and almost all of them have been answered by this site! Because of this, I decided to create my own account and ask my own specific questions.

As a nervous senior, I am applying to:

Boston College (EA-restricted)

Georgetown University (EA)

Villanova University (EA)

University of Virginia (EA)

Tulane University (EA)

Boston University (Regular)

University of Pennsylvania (Regular)

Duquesne University (EA)

Alumni at: Georgetown (5), Villanova (2), Virginia (2), UPenn (1)

My three favorite schools are Boston College, Georgetown and Villanova, in that order. I am applying early action to all but UPenn and Boston University.

Now I ask you, to tell me what you think my chances are at these schools, given the following numbers:

Background information:
White
Male
Live in Pennsylvania

Standardized Test Scores:
SAT (1): CR 620, M 600, W 610 = 1830
SAT (2): CR 630, M 620, W 670 = 1920
SAT (3): Taken OCT1, expect to receive OCT20
- Sidenote: I had an SAT math tutor for the most recent test, and scored a CR 660, M 690, W 690 on my most recent PRACTICE test, but as you probably already know, it often does not translate to the real thing.

SAT Subjects: Will take US History, Math II, English Literature on NOV5

ACT:
29 English
27 Math
31 Reading
27 Science
10/12 on essay (29 writing/english)
29 composite

School:
4.25 weighted GPA
28/366 rank (7.65%)
School apparently has a solid reputation (to my surprise) and is growing
Honors classes since freshman year

AP Classes:
Freshman - US Government (4)
Sophomore - Human Geography (5)
Junior - European History (4), Statistics (4)
Senior - US History, Chemistry, Calculus (taking honors, but will still take AP test)

Activities:
Tennis JR/SR
Cross Country FR/SO
Track and Field FR
Job shadowed under Pennsylvania US Congressman Jim Gerlach
Job shadowed under family dentist and orthodontist
Some, but admittedly not a lot of voluntary work
YMCA Lifeguard 15hr/wk since freshman year

Recommendations from:
SO/JR AP Social studies teacher (got an A in Human and A- in Euro for him)
JR/SR AP Chemistry teacher (got an A in honors chemistry)
Counselor, who appears to really like me

Awards:
Honor Roll (high school)
Distinguished honors (high school)
AP Award (take 4+ AP tests and score 3+ on all)

Now I have most likely forgotten to mention something, so feel free to ask for more information.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me what you think my chances are at these schools. I am generally pretty good at these types of predictions, but everyone knows you can't judge yourself objectively.

Thank you VERY much!

applying as finance major

I have somewhat similar stats, and will be applying as a finance major to some of these schools. quick question, doesnt EA (restrictive) for Boston College prevent you from applying EA (nonrestrictive) to other schools?

I thought Boston College’s “EA” was more like an ED, but correct me if I’m wrong.

Restrictive early action restricts you from applying EARLY DECISION to any other schools, but still allows you to apply early action to any other schools. Hopefully we both get into our schools!

Quote from Boston College website:

“Boston College does not permit students to apply under Early Action if they are applying to a binding Early Decision program at another college. Students are free to apply to other Early Action and Regular Decision programs.”

oh nice, good find!

Might look at Holy Cross-very good combination of academics and athletics.

Tulane and BU is a good match. Do look at Holy Cross as suggested by the other poster.
Excellent academics and student life.

Be careful using alumni like crazy. I work with private college advising and have good friends in the Ivies and other top universities…if your alumni has NOT donated over 100,000 their recommendation is filed and hardly merits any second glance by admissions. As for colleges I say go for BC that is my top school too!

$100,000** if it wasnt obvious

Post thought- I saw you shadowed your local congressmen…be careful because colleges get tons of letters of recommendation from legislatures and unless that individual is your family of godfather it may be best not to name drop as the schools you are talking to are dealing with the kids of multi-billionaires and A-List personnel’s kids.

FYI, you won’t be able to send your subject test scores to UVA if you apply EA because the last test date they allow is October
