bother to chance? PLEASE

Okay guys, just wondering how I'm doing so far.

I'll give you some information on me.

Ethnicity: Hispanic
- my parents were illegal immigrants and are now citizens
- I am a citizen and my brother and sister came over here with my parents.
- My brother graduated from Stanford in the class of 2008

Some classes I'm taking:

I attend the best and most challenging school pretty much in all of Arizona.
- Brophy College Prep.

at this point, in the third quarter of my Junior year, I have had 7 honors courses and 4 AP courses. I barely started taking AP's this year. Next year, I will most likely have 5 AP courses and 1 honors course.

I am currently taking

Honors Alg. II/ Trig.--- I've been struggling in math for the last couple of years but since I've showed improvement my teachers recommended me for the AP Calc. AB class.

AP English III

AP U.S. History

AP Spanish IV

AP Chem

Christian Ethics- religious courses are mandatory and there are no honors or AP courses available.

Sports Medicine.

My uw GPA so far this semester is 3.95 and my weighted is 4.59. If I wasn't taking the sports med course, which i love, I would have a 4.69.

Clubs/ Activities

Key Club- 3 years
Big Brothers- 2 years
Spanish Honors Society- 2 years
NHS- didn't bother to apply since you only have to have a 3.5 gpa uw. I thought this was a little ridiculous because of course it's going to be easy to get a 3.5 if someone is taking all regular courses.
Started my own club. I'm the president--- St. Joseph's Helpers- we volunteer at the hospital close to our school.

I have lots of hours of community service at the hospital, homeless shelter, etc. (haven't bothered to count but i can dig my hours up later)

I have not taken the SAT or the SAT II's yet.

I'm really dedicated to Sports Medicine. I've taken the class 4 semesters now. My teacher, Chris White is the president of the Athletic Trainer's Association of Arizona and I would say that he likes me.

I have sports med. 7th period and right when 7th period ends I stay in the Athletic Trainer's room for another hours helping our athlete's etc.

So guys, what do you think?

just wondering if i'm doing well so far in my junior year.

thanks a lot guys, I appreciative any comments that can help

sorry for all of the posts, my computer went a little haywire

you can delete the other two if you want

Can't really chance you without your SATs, and your rank would be helpful too, but you're looking good :)

We don't really rank here and yeah, i know my SAT would help but it's just a small part of the application so I don't think it matters that much.

thanks for the confidence boost

for my essays, I would definitely write about how Stanford is the perfect choice because of all of the generic answers and because of their financial aid program. Since my parents don't make nearly enough to pay for tuition, if I got in I think that they would pay all of it.

In another essay i'll also talk about how my school is primarily white since they don't really accept that many minorities and how i'm the only hispanic in all of my AP classes and my honors class. Except for AP Spanish IV of course. LOL

^^^^ um first of all they give you three essays, with topics
-intellectual vitality, roommate, and .... wow i forget already!

also, i dont think that idea is very good, even for common app. I mean theres lots of schools where URMs are minorities, and this makes it seem like you are putting yourself above the other URMs in your community... when really you should focus and telling them why you as aperson are better than any of the other applicants, including white and asian.

ok,ok, makes sense

thanks for the advice

keep it coming...

any other good advice for a Junior?

In another essay i'll also talk about how my school is primarily white since they don't really accept that many minorities and how i'm the only hispanic in all of my AP classes

^^ I am with Basketball on this. Someone on this forum got rejected from Stanford SCEA this yr and had essays similar to what you plan to write about

Talking about minorities and race in a college essay? That's pretty much like writing your own rejection letter. Don't do it, show your creativity.
