Hi Im currently a NJ resident/senior. I only applied to two schools which include University of Colorado at Boulder and University of Rutgers New Brunswick. Luckily, I was accepted into both and know I am trying to choose the best college to go to overall. Because I am an NJ resident Rutgers would cost 11000 while Boulder would cost 28000 in tuition. However, Boulder was my dream school since last year. Right Now, I am just trying to figure which one would be the best for me overall. Any opinions or thoughts?

For Rutgers I was denied from Business school but was accepted in School of environmental and biological sciences which is an interest. For Boulder I was accepted into the Leeds school of business. Both are majors I am interested but at the moment I am leaning towards Business.

Hey, Boulder is great – but unless money is not at all a factor, paying well over $40K (with room & board, travel, etc.) for a public school may be a questionable decision financially. I certainly don’t think you should do it if you will be taking out loans. Also, you should factor in the possibility of it taking longer to graduate at Boulder. The school has experienced so many cuts, it’s getting quite tough to graduate in 4 years.

i am going to take a different approach- are you an outdoorsy, earthy, rocky climbing, skiing type person or do you want to be? if yes visit boulder before you make a decision if you can.

I agree with katliamom.

At Rutgers, you can still do business through the business economics option in Dept of Ag, Food, & Resource Economics in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences.

Because I am an NJ resident Rutgers would cost 11000 while Boulder would cost 28000 in tuition.

Assuming that you can’t commute to either school, you’ll need to add about $10k-15k to those amounts for room, board, books, etc…And, of course, you’ll have much higher transportation costs for Boulder because of airfares and such a few times per year.

What are your parents saying?

If they are happily willing to pay the $40k per year for you to go to Boulder, then go there. If they won’t pay, it’s not really an option, right?

BTW…is there a way to transfer into Rutgers B-school once you’re there? Or maybe do a business minor?

well there is an option but it isnt guaranteed to get you into the business school. I guess at the moment it just depends on how much financial aid ill be receiving.

*well there is an option but it isnt guaranteed to get you into the business school. *

What is this option? What do you have to do? Do you have to have a certain GPA to apply once you’re at Rutgers?

??? UC-Boulder is a state school and you’re out of state.

UC-Boulder is not generous with need-based aid to out of state students.

Does Boulder have any scholarships that you might qualify for? Are your stats high for the school? What are your stats?

Have your parents said how much they’ll pay? What is your EFC?

Unless your parents can pay for Boulder I would not take out $10K/year in loans to go there. RU is a good school and can be enjoyable if you make the best of it. I understand Boulder is much more attractive, etc but sometimes you can’t have a Porsche and have to buy the Honda. Both will get you there.

“Both will get you there” – Amen to that.
