Although this documentary is about Colby College . I think it’s insight can be applied by most college students to their own college experience. .

Good grief…Could they all have been just a speck more depressing? I couldn’t get past the first 12 minutes…maybe things lightened up after that.

I sincerely hope that the Colby video is NOT an accurate reflection of the college experience of the majority of Colby students - or of most LAC students elsewhere for that matter. While it is certainly helpful to hear opinions from students who don’t necessarily speak glowingly of their alma mater, some balance in this gloomy, one-sided video would have been nice.

What an unflattering portrayal of Colby!

Not sure why this is being posted on the Bowdoin Board, and especially with the heading “Bowdoin Life.”

While this is an honest portrayal of the experiences of at least some Colby students (and it is disheartening), I don’t think it captures the dynamic experienced by most students at the highly competative LAC’s. For one thing, I was most surprised to hear the Colby students say that they never have intellectual discussions outside of the classroom. I can tell you that in my experience at Bowdoin, the opposite was true.

In defense of Colby, this video is a student’s independent study project and may be representative of her experience. That is to say, other students may see Colby in a very different light . . .

I thought that video only pertained to Colby.

Even though it didn’t exactly show Colby in the best light, it showed the school from a different perspective. IMO, I read nothing but the same old “Had a blast here! Best school ever!” description for almost every college – to the point where it doesn’t really add much value. I appreciated the honesty of the video and it showed the “other side” of Colby beyond the “Best school ever” side.
