Bowdoin vs Emory

emory is more diverse, bowdoin is 70% white and very racist, unlike emory

also bowdoin has a tradition of beating up underachievers. the upperclassmen do it. i saw the article in the times but ill try to find it again on their online archives.

Hopefully, the mods with think precious little of charges of racism on this board.

This from a guy that posted this:

If you truly are going to Emory, you do a discredit to the young men and women at that fine university.

By the numbers, it is rather hard to differentiate these two schools.
They have about the same SAT averages (Bowdoin is a bit stronger in the CR and W, Emory in the M). Bowdoin is much more selective (19% vs. 32% admit rate) but it is in a different market, making comparison tricky. Emory’s faculty salaries are higher, but again, it is in a different market. I was a little surprised to find that their numbers on class size distributions are about the same.

Seems to me, this one is all about “fit” issues (location? style? size?), not quality.
I don’t put much stock in prestige. Few people out on the street, anywhere but New England, have heard of Bowdoin. On the other hand, many people in the north probably assume Emory is just another hard lovin’, hard drinkin’ southern school.

People in academia, and many educated people in general, know that they both have excellent reputations. The OP’s friend should visit both schools and see which one clicks. If that’s impossible and he truly cannot decide, I’d say Emory is a slightly safer choice just because it is larger, it’s less isolated, and the winters are not so severe. Me personally? I’d pick Bowdoin.

I’m done with thread and sorry but I can careless if I check my grammar. And that’s not racist, his opinion. You people are set in your own ways and I know that Emory is just as good as Bowdoin.
