Which school to go for considering that its an International student and an undecided (or maybe Econ eventually) major who has got in. its for a friend. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

I would def. pick Emory. Atlanta is the capital of the South and has grown a lot in the past few years. There will be a lot for him/her to do and Emory is one of the top schools in the USA. Good Luck to your friend.

I personally would choose Bowdoin. These schools are statistically the same competitiveness so I really think it comes down to a few things: which school atmosphere do you prefer? Bowdoin is extremely small, beautiful, rural, and intimate while Emory is Urban and mores prestigious. Also if you plan on attending graduate school, graduate schools will definitely recognize the prestige of Bowdoin, while many employers may not. However, to get the most of the experience as a foreigner, I think Emory is a better choice.

An international would probably fit in much better in Atlanta since its a major metropolitan city. Econ is strong an Emory, which also has a B-school.

I also feel more people have heard of Emory internationally than Bowdoin.

I would choose Bowdoin.

Emory isn’t anywhere near an urban area. It’s very suburban and i surrounded by a dense canopy of trees like the rest of suburban Atlanta.

I would choose Bowdoin. Bowdoin has a more personal feel then Emory. Also Bowdoin is consistently listed among schools that have the best quality of life. The food is excellent at Bowdoin and the campus is beautiful. Bowdoin is just as prestigious as Emory

Emory is def. not very suburban it’s right there next to the city. I consider a place which is an hour away a suburb. It’s right there next to ATL.

Bowdoin in a heartbeat.

If the dude likes to ski, Bowdoin

If he hates the cold, Emory

Have you been to Emory? It’s at least a few miles from any true urban area.

Those factors I guess could be important, but academic quality would have to be the most important. I wouldn’t choose a place because it makes you feel more warm and fuzzy at the end of the day.

Bowdoin = greater academic quality

Emory is in the Clairmont/Druid Hills area, which is closer to suburban than urban. and Early, an hour from a city = suburban? u make me LOL. (unless ur including traffic, which could make some suburbs an HR away)

But Urban or Suburban is better than Maine. Choose Emory.

rsxwheeeeee, you live in Atlanta, have you ever been to Maine??

I have been to Emory. I would not consider a few miles a suburb. It’s right next to the city, but it really depends on what your definition of a suburb is. I consider suburbs an hour or so away from the city in another town.

Also, I have asked a lot of people already and none of them have heard of Bowdoin. Emory is way more well known and a better school.

Bowdoin may not be well-known but it’s more selective than Emory and is a better school overall.

Very untrue. Emory is def. a better school overall. Have you ever been to Emory? I think you don’t know much about Emory and Emory will look better on the resume. If Bowdoin is not well known, people may never heard of it.

I think we need to make a distinction here between what your definition of the term
“better school overall” is because reputation and classroom quality are two different things
