Boys State Camp

Is Boys State Camp going to boost your college application? Thanks for your thoughts and opinions!

My son was an above average student with lots of AP classes, 3 sport athlete, many extra curriculars and community service. Was an average test taker and SAT scores and ACT scores reflected that. He attended NJ Boys State as a rising high school senior. Besides the fact that he had a great time, it really helped shape his public speaking skills, leadership skills and his debate skills. Needless to say, he fell below the middle average SAT score but was accepted to Fordham where he excelled, double majored and double minored with great internships and multiple job offers prior to graduating. I truly believe Boys State helped him seperate from others. Sorry it’s not a concrete yes/no answer, but seemed to help in our case. Good luck, it can’t hurt and can only help.

Thanks! Appreciate it!

For the Service Academies (e.g., West Point), Boys State is looked very highly upon as a leadership opportunity.

Note that Boys/Girl State delegate is the number one Activity done (because it is valued).

But try to get a leadership position at Boys State.

Can’t hurt, but make sure you consider other options.
